Kari& Autumn: What inspired you to become a writer?

Christine:  I think I was born a writer. I wrote my first short story when I was about 8 -- it involved Cabbage Patch Dolls going to Mars. I've always like to write, and it has always been about strange or unusual events (science fiction or fantasy).

I got "serious" about writing in 2003, when I attended a by-audition boot camp with Orson Scott Card. Before that, becoming an author was a dream. After that, it became a goal.

I love writing about characters more than anything else. Give me a person with a problem and I'll give you a wonderful story of overcoming adversity.

Kari& Autumn: Where do you come up with the ideas for your books?

Christine: Ahhh, ideas! I'm currently working on my first nonfiction book, which will be called Bringing New Worlds to Life. (A world building guide for science fiction and fantasy writers.) In it, I discuss ideas in depth and the fact that ideas are quite literally everywhere. You get them people watching or in the news or reading books or playing with your kids or walking around the neighborhood or...or... Everywhere! I believe ideas are cheap. The hard part is weaving those ideas into a compelling story. That part takes time, dedication, and practice.

Kari& Autumn: What exciting projects are waiting in the wings?

Christine: The Cassie Scot series is complete, and each book will be coming out with mere months in between. Secrets and Lies, book 2, is expected to come out this fall.  We're just waiting on cover art. Mind Games, book 3, is with an editor even as we speak.

There will also be two spin-off sequels to the Cassie Scot series involving minor characters that got too big for me and took on lives of their own. One of those stories is drafted, the other one is still in notes and in my head.

In addition, I'm working on a completely new book -- new characters, new world, new magic -- involving a world of dreams.

Kari& Autumn: Who is your favorite literary character and why?

Christine:  Mackayla Lane from Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. I like her because she represents to me the epitome of character growth and change over the course of a series.

Kari& Autumn: Just for fun, if you could be any animal, what would it be and why?

Christine: A bird so I could fly. (And if I ever finish that dreamworld book I mentioned you will now know why my main character often dreams herself into the form of a bird. :) )

Thanks for having me!
