Blog Tour: Fractured by Catherine McKenzie

Author: Catherine McKenzie
Publisher: Lake Union Press
Date of publication: October 2016

Welcome, neighbor!
Julie Prentice and her family move across the country to the idyllic Mount Adams district of Cincinnati, hoping to evade the stalker who’s been terrorizing them ever since the publication of her bestselling novel, The Murder Game. Since Julie doesn’t know anyone in her new town, when she meets her neighbor John Dunbar, their instant connection brings measured hope for a new beginning. But she never imagines that a simple, benign conversation with him could set her life spinning so far off course.
We know where you live…
After a series of misunderstandings, Julie and her family become the target of increasingly unsettling harassment. Has Julie’s stalker found her, or are her neighbors out to get her, too? As tension in the neighborhood rises, new friends turn into enemies, and the results are deadly.

Fractured is going to be one of those books that is hard to review with out giving away any spoilers. I really liked the story.  The basic premise is that Julie moves to a new town.  She is an author and is trying to start a new life after she and her family are stalked by a crazed fan.  The new idyllic neighborhood is anything but and Julie soon finds her self a target again.  The story is told through both Julie's and John's (her neighbor's) eyes in altering time lines.  They all lead up to some tragic event that will change everyone's lives forever.  I like how the story was told as it laid out details for the reader at just the right time.

Out of all of the characters, I felt the most badly for Julie.  The street she moved onto was ruled by a lonely bored woman who really needed to mind her own business.  Gossip and innuendo made events get out of hand and be blown out of proportion; making Julie an unfair target.  Like a lot of small suburban communities, there are a lot of secrets and this one is chalk full of them. There are a lot of surprises to be found among the pages of the book.  I was surprised more than once.  In the end, they were all guilty of something or were they?

I definitely recommend this one.  It's one of the better books I have read this year.  It will really make you think about what goes on behind the doors of the seemingly perfect homes around you.
