Forget You

By:  Jennifer Echols

Summary:  WHY CAN’T YOU CHOOSE WHAT YOU FORGET . . . AND WHAT YOU REMEMBER? There’s a lot Zoey would like to forget. Like how her father has knocked up his twenty-four- year old girlfriend. Like Zoey’s fear that the whole town will find out about her mom’s nervous breakdown. Like darkly handsome bad boy Doug taunting her at school. Feeling like her life is about to become a complete mess, Zoey fights back the only way she knows how, using her famous attention to detail to make sure she’s the perfect daughter, the perfect student, and the perfect girlfriend to ultra-popular football player Brandon. But then Zoey is in a car crash, and the next day there’s one thing she can’t remember at all—the entire night before. Did she go parking with Brandon, like she planned? And if so, why does it seem like Brandon is avoiding her? And why is Doug—of all people— suddenly acting as if something significant happened between the two of them? Zoey dimly remembers Doug pulling her from the wreck, but he keeps referring to what happened that night as if it was more, and it terrifies Zoey to admit how much is a blank to her. Controlled, meticulous Zoey is quickly losing her grip on the all-important details of her life—a life that seems strangely empty of Brandon, and strangely full of Doug.

I recently won this book from Bless Their Hearts Mom.  I had really high expectations because I had heard such good buzz about this book around the blogosphere.  I was quite disappointed.  I didn't like this book much at all.

I thought Zoey was just...dumb.  She kept babbling about Brandon being her boyfriend.  Based on what??  You hooked up in the backseat of a car and then you basically never saw him again.  Not even that night.  He walked off, bragged to the guys that he just "tapped your ass" and then drove home with another girl.  There's no more dates or hanging out in school or even phone calls.  One backseat romp does not a boyfriend make...it's called a ONE NIGHT STAND Zoey.

Doug was a little bit better, but he was kinda in the same boat as Zoey.  He had this big grand relationship in his head and obviously Zoey wasn't buying it.  However, I don't fault him as much as Zoey.  Zoey knew what Brandon was Doug didn't understand the amnesia situation with Zoey, which leads me to my next point.

Why couldn't anyone just tell the frickin' truth in this book??  Why couldn't Zoey just say...hey I was in a big wreck and I'm having trouble remembering what happened could someone fill me in?  Why did Mike throw such a fit?  I didn't get it!

The one plus I'll give this book is all the safe sex it pushed.  Yay for that!

  1. I've heard so many different reviews of this book and I've got no idea whether to buy it or not! I think I'll stick to the Echols book I have (Going Too Far) and see where I go from there. Fab review!

  2. I have this book in my TBR pile and I've heard nothing but praise so far, so it's interesting to read one from a very different perspective!

  3. I recently read (and liked) Jennifer Echols' Going Too Far. It sounds like I would not enjoy Forget You as much. I am not a fan of contrived plotlines with easy solutions (like telling the truth and asking someone you trust what happened the night you can't remember, sounds pretty simple). Thanks for sharing your review! :)
