The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu

Rumor has it that Alice Franklin is a slut. It's written all over the bathroom stall at Healy High for everyone to see. And after star quarterback Brandon Fitzsimmons dies in a car accident, the rumors start to spiral out of control.

In this remarkable debut novel, four Healy High students—the girl who has the infamous party, the car accident survivor, the former best friend, and the boy next door—tell all they know.

This is one of those books that probably every teenaged girl should read.  It's all about rumors and the power of rumors.  One thing can be lied about or misinterpreted and someone's reputation can take a huge hit.

This book is told from multiple view points.  It tells the story of Alice and the night she supposedly slept with two boys at a party.  Then, supposedly because of her relentless flirting the star quarterback died in a car accident.  Everyone had an opinion of Alice and none of them were good.

I thought this book was pretty good.  It was a little racy at times.  It might need to be limited to some of the older YA readers for that reason, but it's probably no worse than anything they hear at school.
