Review: The Janes by Louisa Luna

Author: Louisa Luna
Publisher; Doubleday
Publication Date: January 2020

On the outskirts of San Diego, the bodies of two young women are discovered. They have no names, no IDs, and no family looking for them. Fearing the possibility of a human trafficking ring, the police and FBI reach out to Alice Vega, a private investigator known for finding the missing, for help in finding out who the Janes were—and finding the others who are missing.

Alice Vega is a powerful woman whose determination is matched only by her intellect, and, along with her partner Cap, she will stop at nothing to find the Janes before it is too late.
Louisa Luna is writing new classics of crime fiction, and her partnership of Vega and Cap is rightfully joining the pantheon of the most memorable in crime fiction.

The Janes is the second book to feature Private Investigator Alice Vega and her sometime partner, Max Caplan.  This one takes place a couple of months after the events of Two Girls Down.   This time around, Cap travels to CA to help Alice find out the identity of two Jane Does and how they died.

I thought this one was just as solid of a mystery as the first book.   I don't want to give away any of the book. There are, again, a bunch of twists and turns.  I just really love the dynamic between Alice and Cap.  Their relationship is complicated and I love the road it seems to be going down.   I will give a warning though.  This deals with human trafficking and is a bit graphic in places.  So just be aware of that if you choose to read this one.  The ending gave us a little more glimpse into one character that has been kind of elusive.  I hope we learn more in the next book which I hope comes soon!  I highly recommend this one as well as the first book.
