Review and Interview: The Navy SEAL's Bride by Soraya Lane

Please welcome author, Soraya Lane who is promoting her new book, The Navy SEAL's Bride.  Check out her interview after my thoughts on the book!

Author: Soraya Lane
Publisher: Harlequin
Date of Publication: August 7, 2012

Too much armor to let anyone close... Ex-navy SEAL Tom Cartwright is struggling to return to civilian life. His little niece is his only ray of sunshine and he agrees to be the "show" in her school show-and-tell.

Teacher Caitlin Rose knows all about past disappointments-once, she danced in the spotlight but now she shows others how to. She's learned the hard way to rely only on herself. Yet as soon as Tom looks at her with those big brown eyes, she's done for...
.

My thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed The Navy SEAL's Bride.  Ms. Lane has shared with us a beautiful story about two people who have been through their own personal war and come away scarred.  Caitlin has been hurt by both her father and an abusive boyfriend.  She doesn't trust men easily.  Tom has been injured in battle and is coming to grips with his change in career.  Neither is looking for love.  I thought hat Tom and Caitlin were cute together. I was so rooting for both of them. I love stories where two troubled people begin to heal as they fall in love.  I applauded Caitlin for making the decision to walk away for a bit when she did.  It was nice to see a heroine have the strength to do the right thing for herself, even if it didn't feel good. This book looks to be part of a series, but I didn't feel lost in the least.  If anything, I will be seeking out the other books in the "Heroes Come Home" line.

Enjoy our interview with Soraya:

Kari: What inspired you to become a writer?

Soraya: I was very lucky to grow up in a book loving family. I started reading at a young age, and as soon as I could I was trying to write stories of my own. Thankfully I had very encouraging teachers when I was at school, so my love for books and writing never wavered, and I always hoped to one day be an author.
My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I were away on our first holiday together, and he asked me what I’d do, if I could do anything in the world. I told him I’d be an author, and he just looked at me and asked why I wasn’t writing a book. Needless to say it was a question I needed to be asked, and I started writing a novel with the goal of being published as soon as we arrived back home.

Kari: Where do you come up with the idea for your books?

Soraya:I’m inspired by so many things. I watch a lot of movies and general television, and I love to read fiction and non-fiction, so I’m constantly fuelling my imagination.

Kari: What exciting projects are waiting in the wings?

Soraya:I have just sent my editor my 8th Harlequin Romance book, which is another in my Heroes Come Home mini-series, and I also just self-published my first young adult paranormal romance, Change. It’s available on amazon for $2.99 now. I’m also really excited to announce that Harlequin Romance have offered me another 4-book contract too!

Kari: Who is your favorite literary character and why?

Soraya:Geez, tough question! I can’t think of any single character that is my favorite, but I have loved so many heroines from books over the years. I particularly love strong characters in paranormal books from authors like Nalini Singh, and the strong yet often damaged characters from Nicholas Sparks stories.

Kari: Just for fun, if you could be any animal, what would it be and why?

Soraya:I’d like to be one of my animals! Seriously, our animals are treated like true members of our family – our dogs sleep next to our bed and hang out on our sofa all day, and our horses have a real luxury lifestyle too! I guess if I had to be an animal, I’d like to be one capable of flying. I think soaring through the sky must be the most incredible thing to do.

  1. Hi! I'm so thrilled you enjoyed the book! I always fall in love with my characters, but I have to admit that I still think about these two all the time. I agree that they were made for one another :)
