Blog Tour: Thrill Me by Susan Mallery

Author: Susan Mallery
Publisher: Harlequin Mira
Date of publication:

Meet the Mitchell brothers of Fool’s Gold, California—five gorgeous men who’ve left a trail of broken hearts in their wake…

Maya Farlow learned the hard way to depend only on herself, so when she fell too deeply for the bad-boy charms of Del Mitchell, she did the only thing she could—she ran. Stunned, Del left Fool’s Gold to make his name and fortune in extreme sports.

Now ten years later, Maya’s been hired to promote her hometown’s new slogan, The Destination for Romance. The celebrity spokesman is none other than Del, the man she dumped but never forgot. Awkward!

Although Del’s not the type to hold a grudge, he’s determined to avoid falling a second time for the woman who broke his heart. He’s a daredevil, not an idiot. Trouble is, in all his adventures, he never found a rush as exhilarating as Maya’s kiss. Maybe risking his heart will prove to be the biggest thrill of all…

Thrill Me is the 18th book in the Fool's Gold series.  I have not read all of them, but I have read a few of the beginning books.  Fool's Gold is a neat little town with interesting characters.  Each book can pretty much be read as a stand alone.  I never felt like I was missing any back story.  Having said that, I was a little underwhelmed by this book.  I can't say that it is my favorite of the series.

You all now I'm a big fan of second chance stories. I was looking forward to this one.  But in the end it was just OK for me. The romance was a just kind of blah.  I get the both Maya and Del were hurt when their relationship ended 10 years before, but realistically, neither one should hold a grudge.  They were 19 & 20.  Way too young to be looking at forever.  Their re-connection just felt a bit forced to me.  I thought Del was a little hard on Maya.  Which brings me to the big "secret" that Maya kept from Del.  She did so at his mother's request.  I really disliked him for thinking she had done something wrong.  It wasn't her story to tell. He did redeem himself in the end, so I was happy about that.

In the end, it was the peripheral characters that made me end up enjoying the book.  Their meddling ways made for a lot of comic relief.  I'll probably revisit Fool's Gold in the future.  I would like to see how Aiden and Nick end up fairing in the love department!

  1. Great review, very helpful. I always love the covers of Susan Mallery's books and this one is stunning again. Too bad the story wasn't what you expected it to be...
