My Sister's Bones is a debut novel that shows sometimes you get it right the first time around. I ended up flying through the book because it kept me engaged right through to the end. I definitely didn't end up being what I was expecting, but that was OK. What I got was a book I really enjoyed reading.
Honestly, this book is hard to review without giving anything away. I'll just say that I liked the way the plot was laid out. The reader spends the majority of the book not knowing if Kate is losing her mind or not. She is a war correspondent who is suffering from major PTSD, not just from her job, but from her childhood with an abusive father. She drinks too much and takes too many sleeping pills. About halfway through the book, we get a different perspective from her sister Sally and the reader is left wondering the same thing about her. She is a major alcoholic and was an abusive mom herself. Were both of them losing it? You'll have to read to find out.
I definitely recommend this debut. The ending was a surprise twist that I didn't see coming. I think that this author has a bright future and I look forward to seeing more from her in the future.
