The Closer You Come by Gena Showalter

Author: Gena Showalter
Publisher: Harlequin
Date of publication: March 2015

Just released from prison, Jase Hollister has a dark and twisted past. And now, he has only one goal: stay out of trouble. Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, sounds like the perfect place for him and his two brothers-by-circumstance to settle down and live a nice, simple life. But model citizen isn’t exactly this rugged bachelor’s default setting—especially when it comes to a certain hot-blooded Southern beauty…

Brook Lynn Dillon has always been responsible. Not that it’s done her much good. The down-on-her-luck waitress is broke, single and fun-deprived. Until Jase comes along. He is dangerous, stunningly protective, breathtakingly sexy and as tempting as sin, and the passion sizzling between them is undeniable. But can it melt her resistance? After all, the right kind of trouble might be just what they both need.

The Closer You Come is a new non-paranormal romance series by Gena Showalter featuring three rich bad boys who have moved to Strawberry Valley for a new life.  The first book, focuses on Jase and Brook Lynn. For the most part, I liked this story.  Jase and Brook Lynn both carry some heavy baggage.  They are really good for each other.  Having been in prison, Jase has some major PTSD as a result of his experience.  He is reluctant to tell Brook Lynn the truth about where he was for 9 years.  Brook Lynn has her hands full trying to make ends meet and keeping her sister in check.  Not and easy task.  Watching them fall for each other was really fun.

The one thing that really kind of skeeved me out and made me almost make it a DNF, was the way the two of them met.  It was a very awkward and kind of icky scenario that had me questioning what the author was thinking with that.  But, if I ignored that first scene, the rest of the book was great.

I did also love the relationship between Jase and his two friends.  Having grown up in the system together, their bond is strong and they are as close as brothers.  I look forward to reading their stories in the upcoming books!

Ever After by Jude Deveraux

Author: Jude Deveraux
Publisher: Ballantine Books
Date of publication: June 2015

Life is anything but perfect for Hallie Hartley, a young physical therapist who has given up nearly everything—even her love life—for her beautiful blonde stepsister, Shelly. Though Shelly’s acting career has never taken off, she has certainly perfected the crocodile tears to get what she wants—which all too often means Hallie’s boyfriends. When Hallie arrives home early from work one fateful day, she makes two startling discoveries that will turn her life upside down: Not only has a mysterious relative left Hallie a house on Nantucket, but Shelly has been trying to steal it. Desperate to put her troubles behind her, Hallie impulsively flies to Nantucket.

New trouble, however, has already settled into Hallie’s guest room in the form of her newest client. Hallie is told that wealthy, young James Taggert has injured his leg in a skiing accident. Assuming that the devastatingly handsome man has led a charmed life, Hallie is surprised by Jamie at every turn throughout his recovery. His attentions draw her out of her shell—but he has a dark secret, and is tormented by nightmares that only her presence can keep at bay. She suspects there’s more to his injury than he’s letting on.

Ever After is the third book in this series and I think it's my favorite.  Hallie finds out that she has inherited a house on Nantucket and decides to take a job as a personal Physical therapist to help rehab Jamie's knee. The resident matchmaking ghosts decide to do a little matchmaking.

I loved this story.  Hallie and Jamie are both carrying major baggage.  Hallie is just looking for a home and a place where she doesn't have to be taking care of everyone.  Jamie is looking for peace from his nightmares.  The two were great together.  I loved how they became friends first and then lovers.  One of my favorite parts is the way Hallie shows Jamie's family that they don't have toact like they are walking on egg shells when they are with him.  It was perfect!

I highly recommend this one as well as this series!  I think this is a trilogy, so I am sad to leave the little town of Nantucket and it's ghosts.

Finders Keepers by Stephen King

by:  Stephen King
published by:  Scribner
publish date:  June 2, 2015

“Wake up, genius.” So begins King’s instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn’t published a book for decades. Morris Bellamy is livid, not just because Rothstein has stopped providing books, but because the nonconformist Jimmy Gold has sold out for a career in advertising. Morris kills Rothstein and empties his safe of cash, yes, but the real treasure is a trove of notebooks containing at least one more Gold novel.

Morris hides the money and the notebooks, and then he is locked away for another crime. Decades later, a boy named Pete Saubers finds the treasure, and now it is Pete and his family that Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson must rescue from the ever-more deranged and vengeful Morris when he’s released from prison after thirty-five years.

This is the second book in the "Bill Hodges" trilogy.  We were introduced to Bill Hodges in Mr. Mercedes.  I really enjoyed that book, it was a great blending on King's horror and a police procedural.  Finders Keepers was highly anticipated, but it wasn't exactly what I expected.  The story was really much more about Morris Bellamy and Pete Saubers, and less about the crime fighting trio of Bill, Holly and Jerome.

The story opens with Morris killing the famous author John Rothstein.  On the surface, it seems like the home invasion is about theft of money, but it's really about Morris wanting to steal John's notebooks because he's convinced there are more Jimmy Gold novels hidden in his notebooks.  Before he has time to read them, he gets sent away to prison on a rape charge for many decades.  In that time, Pete Saubers discovers the notebooks, discovers a love of John Rothstein and realizes what a goldmine they are and how they can help his struggling family if he can sell them.  However, things do not go as planned because Bellamy gets release from prison and is looking for his notebooks.  That's when Pete needs to be rescued by Bill, Holly and Jerome.

I really like the characters in these books.  This is an excellent series and I can't wait to read the conclusion.  Will Patton has done a fantastic job with the audiobooks as usual!

"Not So" Throwback Thursday: As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes

(Kind of ...)

Author: Cary Elwes, Joe Layden, Rob Reiner (Foreword)
Publisher: Touchstone
Date of publication: October 2014

From actor Cary Elwes, who played the iconic role of Westley in The Princess Bride, comes a first-person account and behind-the-scenes look at the making of the cult classic film filled with never-before-told stories, exclusive photographs, and interviews with costars Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, and Mandy Patinkin, as well as author and screenwriter William Goldman, producer Norman Lear, and director Rob Reiner.

The Princess Bride has been a family favorite for close to three decades. Ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the top 100 Greatest Love Stories and by the Writers Guild of America as one of the top 100 screenplays of all time, The Princess Bride will continue to resonate with audiences for years to come.

Cary Elwes was inspired to share his memories and give fans an unprecedented look into the creation of the film while participating in the twenty-fifth anniversary cast reunion. In As You Wish he has created an enchanting experience; in addition to never-before seen photos and interviews with his fellow cast mates, there are plenty of set secrets, backstage stories, and answers to lingering questions about off-screen romances that have plagued fans for years!

With a foreword by Rob Reiner and a limited edition original poster by acclaimed artist Shepard Fairey, As You Wish is a must-have for all fans of this beloved film.

I know it's not a true "Throwback" book, but seeing as how it's a book about a movie from the 1980s, I thought it seemed fitting to review it today.  I am a HUGE fan of The Princess Bride.  I think I have seen the movie hundreds of times and only recently shared it with my own children.  My husband and I were very pleased to see that our kids (11 & 9) found the movie just as funny as we did.  If you haven't seen the movie, I urge you to watch it before reading this book.  I'm not sure it can be fully appreciated by someone who isn't familiar with the movie.

As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride was such a wonderful book.  I ended up listening to the audio book which I highly recommend.  It is narrated by Cary Elwes with the voices of several of the actors narrating their own comments that appear in the book.  I thought that Mr. Elwes did an amazing job of capturing his wonderful experience while on the set of this amazing film.  His anecdotes and stories had me laughing on more than one occasion.  It was so cool to hear him talk about being star struck as he was really just kind of starting out in films.  It makes you realize that all big actors started somewhere.  I think one of my favorite stories was when he talked about working as a production assistant on the movie Octopussy and having to  drive Roger Moore to the set  each day.

You can also tell from this book that it was a very special and unique experience for all of those involved in the movie.  Mr. Elwes shows true affection for all of his fellow cast and crew members and that really comes across in the book.  The only thing that I missed from the listening to the audiobook was not having the photos to look at, but I will be seeking out the book to remedy that.  I can't say enough about this book and think that everyone should read it!  I know now that I will watch the movie with new eyes.

Blog Tour: Gypsy Love by Jillian Neal

Author: Jillian Neal
Publisher: Smashwords
Date of publication: July 14, 2015

Arley Copeland vows never to trust anyone, much less a man, ever again. After her fledging career as a romance writer grinds to a halt and her ex blabs to the press about her preferences in bed, she heads to Gypsy Beach desperate to regain some anonymity and maybe figure out what to do next.

Divorce attorney John Rowan has been in on the explosive end of more marriages than he can count. Love never lasts. Of that he’s certain. Sick of barely existing inside the concrete jungle of Atlanta with the endless traffic and endless noise he heads towards a two-week reprieve in Gypsy Beach, North Carolina.

From the moment he lays eyes on Arley Copeland, John is determined to prove that not every guy on the planet is out to hurt her, and maybe teach her a thing or two about herself in his bed and out. With every sinfully sweet caress, they’re falling more and more in love. Their pasts may be fading away, but will John ever be prepared to risk it all on a lifetime love when he doesn’t believe such a thing could ever exist?

The great thing about reading romance is that you always get a HEA, right?  Sometimes it's fast and sometimes it takes the coupe ages to get there.  But ultimately in the end, the reader is left with a smile and a sense that the couple will make it forever. In Gypsy Love, Arley, a romance writer, talks a lot about the reasons she writes romance novels because she loves the HEA.  John is a divorce attorney who doesn't believe that can exist because he sees divorce every day in his work.  I knew this wold make for a good book and I was right.

I liked this couple's story.  I thought they were great for each other.  Their attraction was pretty intense and I think that added to the speed at which they came together. While the love declaration and HEA was a bit quick for me, I ultimately did like the book and the message.  Forever is not about doing it in a moment, it's about collecting all of your moments together to make up a lifetime.

While this is the second book in the series, I did feel it could do as a stand alone.  I do want to seek out the first book, Gypsy Beach and read how Sienna and Ryan get their second chance at love.

Blog Tour: Newport by Jill Morrow

Author: Jill Morrow
Publisher: William Morrow
Date of publication: July 2015

In a glamorous Newport mansion filled with secrets, a debonair lawyer must separate truth from deception. . . .

Spring 1921. The Great War is over, Prohibition is in full swing, the Great Depression is still years away. Wealthy families flock to the glittering “summer cottages” they built in Newport, Rhode Island.
Having sheltered in Newport during his misspent youth, attorney Adrian de la Noye is no stranger to the city. Though he’d prefer to forget the place, he returns to revise the will of a well-heeled client. Bennett Chapman’s offspring have the usual concerns about their father’s much-younger fiancée. But when they learn of the old widower’s firm belief that his late first wife, who “communicates” via séance, has chosen the stunning Catharine Walsh forhim, they’re shocked. And for Adrian, encountering Catharine in the last place he saw her decades ago proves to be a far greater surprise.

Adrian is here to handle a will, and he intends to do so—just as soon as he unearths every last secret about the Chapmans, Catharine Walsh . . . and his own very fraught history.

Newport was a very pleasant surprise.  I never know if I'm going to like period stories like this one. But, as I started the book, I found myself drawn into the story.  I even read it straight through in pretty much one sitting.  That was a late night!  Having grown up near Newport, RI and having visited the mansions and Cliff Walk, I could easily picture the setting of this tale.

Basically, Adrian and Jim have traveled to Newport from Boston to re-write the will of a client who is set to marry someone several decades his junior.  The kids are protesting because Bennett claims he has been directed by his late wife to marry Catharine.  He has heard from her through a medium and believes he must follow her direction.

This was a good solid mystery with a sweet romance in the mix.  There is a reason that Bennett is being directed to marry Catharine.  Through flashbacks and subsequent seances, those reasons slowly unfold.  I liked the twists and surprises, especially the reveal in the end.  I don't want to talk plot points too much because I think it would ruin the whole story. Throughout the entire book, I found myself constantly questioning whether or not Amy was really channeling Mrs. Chapman or if she was a con  artist.  I definitely changed my mind a dozen times and I'm sure you will as well.

I see a bright future for this author and look forward to see what she comes up with next!

“Morning,” she said as he approached. Her lingering sleepiness faded as odd tingles began in her toes and raced up to the top of her head. Horror replaced trepidation.
No, no, no! There couldn’t be tingles or awareness or any of that. Uh-uh. No way. Not her. She refused to be attracted to Delany Mitchell. Not after ten years and thousands of miles. The miles being metaphorical for her and literal for him. They were done. They’d moved on. Okay, technically she’d dumped him in a cruel and immature way, but regardless of her failings, it was so over as to be a relationship fossil.
Exhaustion, she told herself desperately. The tingles were the result of exhaustion. And maybe hunger. She would probably faint next and then everything would be fine.
“Morning,” he said as he stopped in front of her. “You ratted me out to my mother.”
The words were so at odds with what she’d been thinking that she had trouble understanding their meaning. When the mental smoke cleared, she was able to breathe again.
“You mean I told her you were in town?”
“Yeah. You could have given me fifteen minutes to get in touch with her.”
She smiled. “You never said it was a secret. I stopped by to see a friend and told her you were back. She was surprised.”
“That’s one way to put it. She gave me an earful.”
The barista handed Maya her latte. Maya took it and started for the door. “If you’re expecting me to feel guilty about that, it’s so not happening. How could you not bother telling your mother you were coming home? I’m not the bad guy here.”
Del fell into step with her. “I wanted it to be a surprise.”
“Is that what we’re calling it these days?”
He held open the door for Brew-haha. When they got to the sidewalk, he pointed to the left and she walked along with him. Because, well—why not?
“You’re saying I should have let her know I was home for the rest of the summer?”
“Speaking as your mom’s friend, yes, you should have told her you were coming. Or that you’d arrived. And if you didn’t want me to tell her, you should have said something. If she scolded you, it’s your own fault. I accept absolutely no guilt or blame on the topic.”
He surprised her by laughing. “You always did have attitude.”
Back then it had been bravado. She liked to think she now had a little experience or even substance to back it up.
They reached the lake. Del turned toward the path that led to the rental cabins on the far side. Maya went with him. The day was sunny and promised to be plenty warm. August was often the hottest part of summer in Fool’s Gold. Up in the mountains fall came early, but not in the town itself.
Along the shores of Lake Ciara, just south of the Golden Bear Inn, was a cluster of summer cabins. They ranged from small studios to large three-bedroom structures. Each cabin had a big porch with plenty of room for sitting out and watching the lake. There was a play area for the kids, a communal fire pit and easy walking access to Fool’s Gold.
Del led the way to one of the smaller cabins. There was plenty of seating on a surprisingly large porch.
“Not a suite at Ronan’s Lodge?” she asked, taking the chair he offered.
He settled next to her. “I spend enough time in hotels when I travel. This is better.”
“But there’s no room service.”
He glanced at her, one brow raised. “You think I can’t cook?”
It had been ten years, she thought. “I guess I don’t know that much about you.” Anymore. She didn’t say the last word, but she thought it. Because there had been a time when she’d known everything about Del. Not just his hopes and dreams, but how he laughed and kissed and tasted.
First love was usually intense. For her it had been that and more. With Del, for the first time in her life she’d allowed herself to hope she might not have to go it alone. That maybe, just maybe she could believe that someone else would be there for her. To look out for her. To give a damn.
“To start with, I can cook,” he said, drawing her back to the present. “There was a last-minute cancelation so I got the cabin.”
A couple of little boys played down by the water. Their mother watched from a blanket on the grass. Their shrieks and laughter carried over to them.
“It’s going to be noisy,” she said.
“That’s okay. I like being around kids. They don’t know who I am, and if they do, they don’t care.”
Some people would care, she thought, wondering how difficult his version of fame had become.
He’d made a name for himself on the extreme sports circuit. Crazy downhill snowboarding stunts had morphed into skysurfing. He’d become the face of a growing sport with the press clamoring to know why anyone would jump out of a plane with a board attached to their feet and deliberately spin and turn the whole way down.
After a few years of being a media darling, he’d made yet another change, designing a better board, and then starting the company that built them. That move had made him more mainstream—at least for the business crowd—and he’d become a popular guest on business shows. When he’d sold the company—walking away with cash and no announcing what he would do—he’d become the stuff of legends. A daredevil willing to take life on his own terms.
She’d wanted that once. Not the danger, but the being famous part. It would have been one of the perks of being in front of the camera instead of behind it. For her it hadn’t been about money or getting a reservation at a popular restaurant. It had been about belonging. That if others cared about her, she must have value. Be worthy, in some small way.
Time and maturity had helped her see the fallacy of that argument, but the hollowness of needing it had never completely gone away. With that dream over, she would have to find another way to make peace with her past.

Blog Tour:Excerpt and Review: Hat Trick by Liz Crowe

Author: Liz Crowe
Publisher: Tri Destiny Publishing
Release Date: July 7, 2015

Detroit’s expansion pro team has a hot star forward, fresh from the English Premiere League. Thanks to a series of fatal misunderstandings coupled with his famous temper, Declan MacGuire only has one thing left to him—soccer—and he’s determined not to make the same mistakes in his new life stateside.

Emily Keller, an accidental low-level PR flunkie for the team watches as Declan gets sucked into a whirlwind romance with Cassandra Dean, the team’s Queen Bee groupie, trying not to be jealous while the woman maneuvers him into a sickeningly familiar situation.

When things escalate, the team is forced to take sides, and Declan faces the toughest choice of his life.

Hat Trick is the 4th book in the Black Jack Gentlemen series and the first one that I have read.  Although it is supposed to work well as a stand alone, I did fell like I as missing some back story with some of the characters and with the soccer team.  I really wanted to like this book.  I even read it all the way through hoping that I would ultimately like the story.  Honestly, I really didn't.  Just a warning there may be a couple spoilers in this review, so stop reading if you aren't a fan of them.

I'll start by saying that the writing style was fine.  I didn't mind the back and forth between Emily and Declan's point of view. In fact, that is a style that I enjoy. The problem was that none, and I mean none, of the characters were likable.  I also kept looking for the love story, but never really felt like I got it.  In  fact through most of the book Declan and Emily are with other people.  The story takes place over several years and shows the struggles each has with their horrid relationships.  Then it felt like all of a sudden Declan and Emily are friends, lovers and getting married.

It seemed like there weren't many characters that displayed respectful behavior toward anyone.  I couldn't reconcile Declan's behavior when he first finds out about Cassandra's cheating.  Instead of breaking things off, he forces her to have sex with him and still wants to marry her.  Huh?  She slept with other men on your soccer team!  That is just gross. In fact, the entire team disgusted me.  How can they play well together and function as a team when they are screwing each other over off the field?  Then his behavior after he caught her the second time was just not acceptable nor justifiable.  I don't care what Cassandra did,bad as it was, it didn't excuse his behavior. Emily is just as bad.  After finding out that her husband was a cheater, she has revenge sex with the pool boy, then asks for a divorce.  I was stunned by Marcus's confession about what he didn't do regarding the divorce.  Can that even happen?  Wouldn't she realize that she never got a decree from the courts?

I could go on, but I won't.  I have seen rave reviews for this story, so maybe I'm missing something.  I just can't get behind a book when I don't respect any of the characters.  If you are a fan of the series, then you'll probably like this one.  It just wasn't for me.

Excerpt:

Declan grabbed his teammate’s arm and shoved him through the locker room door. “Don’t flirt with that poor girl, mate. She’s besotted with your sorry, diseased self. Don’t make it worse.”
Coop yanked his arm out of Declan’s grip and glared at him. “Fuck off, Scotty.”
Declan’s hackles rose, but not nearly as much as they normally would have. It was as if the past seventy-two hours had been a sort of temper purge, leaving him deflated, not his usual prickly self.
“I saw you doing the same with Emily, the hot PR cougar. She loves to pamper her pet.”
“Her what?” He was yanking off his tie and coat and wasn’t sure he’d heard the guy correctly.
“You, my fine troublemaking friend, are Emily Keller’s pet. Her toy. Her fantasy player, whatever.”
“You’re full of shite.” But his face burned hot yet again at the idea that Emily considered him anything but the latest in a long line of problem children for her particular function—that of shielding the team from the bright light of negative media attention. He was putting his shoes inside his locker when the door flew open, revealing his two coaches, Metin the Turk and Rafe the South American.
“MacGuire,” Rafe barked. “Office. Now.”
Dec looked around as if perchance there might be another “MacGuire” in a shit ton of trouble. Coop turned away from him and stripped out of his shirt. He noted all the other players similarly ignoring him like the leper he was.
Jason met his eyes from down the row of men in various stages of undressing. The place was so quiet he could hear melting ice in the baths next to the locker room. Both Metin and Rafe stood in their suits, arms crossed over chests, identically dark eyes narrowed and focused on him.
“Okay,” he muttered under his breath. He’d already begun taking off his shirt so he slid his arms out of it and was hanging it on the hook designed for the daily dress shirt when a throat clearing behind him made him stop and turn. Desmond, the tall, dark and legal, had joined the coaches.
“You can leave your shirt on, Dec,” the man intoned in his James Earl Jones voice. “You won’t be practicing today.

That Chesapeake Summer by Mariah Stewart

Author: Mariah Stewart
Publisher: Pocket Books
Date of publication:June 2015

Jamie Valentine is the wildly successful author of self-help books advocating transparency in every relationship. But when her widowed mother passes away unexpectedly, Jamie discovers her own life has been based on a lie. Angry and deeply betrayed, she sets out to find the truth—which may be in a small town on the Chesapeake Bay. Cutting her most recent book tour short, Jamie books a room at the Inn at Sinclair’s Point, just outside St. Dennis.

The death of Daniel Sinclair’s father forced him to take over the family inn, and his wife’s death left him a single parent of two children, so there’s little room for anything else in his life. His lovely new guest is intriguing, though, and he’s curious about the secret she’s clearly hiding. But in the end, Jamie and Dan could discover the greatest truth of all: that the search for one thing just might lead to the find of a lifetime—if you keep your heart open.

That Chesapeake Summer is the 9th book in this series and only the third that I have read.  The thing that I like about these books is that they really do hold up well as stand alone books.  I have never felt like I was missing any back story when I have picked one up.  St. Dennis is a town that you can feel comfortable dropping in any time to meet up with old friends or make new ones.

I enjoyed this one.  Jamie Valentine is a famous self-help author who, upon her mother's death, find out she was adopted.  Her parents never told her.  She has a few clues and sets out to St. Dennis to find out the identity of her mother.  There she stays at the  Inn at Sinclair’s Point and quickly becomes integrated into town life.  Through Grace's help, she sets out about figuring out who her birth mother might be.  I did like the clever way that Grace helped her figure it out.  I also had to admire Jamie for pursuing it as she did.  I'm not sure I would have had the courage to do it.

The only thing that didn't sit too well with me was the relationship between Jamie and Dan.  I kind of felt like it was really fast. I would have liked to see them interact more than they did in the book.  Don't get me wrong, I was rooting for them, but I wanted more.

If you are looking for a good summer beach read this year, I do recommend this one or why not start at the beginning of the series with Coming Home?

Blog Tour: Book Excerpt from The Collar by Tara Sue Me

Author: Tara Sue Me
Publisher: Berkley NAL
Date of publication: July 2015

The New York Times bestselling author of The Submissive returns with a scintillating new tale about power, danger, and jaw-dropping passion....

Nathaniel and Abby are struggling to navigate the challenging waters of their own relationship, when they get a surprising phone call from their partners in play, Dena and Jeff, who are in need of a helping hand…

Seven years ago, blonde, beautiful lawyer Dena Jenkins was tired of her carefully controlled life. Desperate for something exhilarating to help her escape the pressures of her demanding job and her senator father, she joined a steamy, local BDSM club as a submissive. There she met brooding Dominant, Jeff. The attraction between them was undeniable, and, despite Dena’s doubts, they couldn’t stay away from each other.

Except, as the years have passed, their blazing connection has proven difficult to maintain. Dena and Jeff have a history they’d rather forget, but Dena can’t let go of the past, and Jeff is ready to move across the country to give her space. Now, to save their passion, they’ll have to rediscover what it means to trust each other—and give themselves to each other completely…

Excerpt:

Chapter One

Present day

Jeff Parks knew it was taking all of Dena’s willpower not to look his way. And since he had once had that willpower bend to his command, he was well aware of the strength involved. On any other given night, he’d be using his own willpower not to stare, but in light of his recent decision—
“Have you been listening to anything I’ve said in the last five minutes?” his friend and fellow Dom, Daniel, asked.
Jeff looked back to the man standing at his side. It was late on a Thursday night and their local BDSM group meeting had just ended. No one was in a hurry to leave though. Everyone wanted to stay around and talk with Nathaniel and Abby. At the moment, Nathaniel stood beside Daniel, grinning. The guest Dominant had led a discussion about keeping D/s relationships from getting stale. Considering the two scenes Jeff had participated in a few months ago with the married couple, staleness wasn’t an issue between Nathaniel and Abby.
“Sorry. What?” Jeff asked Daniel.
“Nothing important. Just going over plans for the play party tomorrow night.”
“Your house at ten.”
“At least you remember that part,” Daniel said in his not-quite-teasing voice.
“I’ve got a lot on my mind.” He might as well go ahead and tell Daniel everything. He’d find out  eventually  and the two of them had been friends for long enough that he deserved to hear the news from Jeff himself. “I’m moving.”
“You’re what?” Daniel asked in shock.
“Why?” Nathaniel asked at the same time.
Jeff’s gaze automatically found Dena again. She was talking with Abby and Julie. Daniel’s submissive must have said something funny, because Dena snorted with laughter, shaking her head. Her long blond hair swayed with the movement.
“Ah,” Daniel said.
“It’s not what you think.”

About Tara Sue Me:

Tara Sue Me wrote her first novel at the age of twelve. It would be twenty years before she picked up her pen to write the second.

After completing several clean romances, she decided to try her hand at something spicier and started The Submissive. What began as a writing exercise quickly took on a life of its own and The Dominant and The Training soon followed. An avid reader of all types of fiction, she soon discovered she enjoyed writing a variety as well.

Blog Tour: Bum Rap by Paul Levine

Author: Paul Levine
Publisher:Thomas & Mercer
Date of publication: July 2015

NFL linebacker-turned-lawyer Jake Lassiter has had it with shifty clients, dirty prosecutors, and a legal system out of whack. It’s enough to make a man want to leave Miami and never look back—until he gets a call from Victoria Lord, the better half of hot local legal team Solomon & Lord. Her partner in life and law has been arrested for murder. What’s worse: the only person who can clear him has fled the city. Now it’s up to Jake and Victoria to track down the witness—a stunning “Bar girl”—before she’s roped in by the feds…or eliminated by the Russian mob.

Jake knows that if he doesn’t get to the witness first, his client’s case is lost. Luckily, he’s got some good advice from his college football coach: “Buckle your chin strap and hit somebody.” And sometimes, the only way to win a tough case is to do just that.

Bum Rap is only the second book in this series that I have read.  Even though it is the 11th book, I think it did well as a stand alone book.  The author does a good job of providing back story so you get a good feel for the characters.  At times I felt like there were too many back stories that bogged the book down.

Bum Rap is a pretty straight forward story,  I didn't really see a lot of mystery in it, so that was a little disappointing.  I remember the last book that I read being a little more exciting and I kind of felt like this one just plodded along.  I do like Lassiter's character.  he's a great lawyer with a good sense of humor.  However, I felt like the book was filled with too many one liners and to much banter between the characters that it got a little tiring.  Almost like it was trying too hard to be funny and I found myself skimming in places. The ending was a bit weird and awkward for me as well.

I think fans of the series will like this addition.  It would make for a good relaxing book to read on the beach or on vacation this summer.
