Blog Tour: Coincidental Cowgirl by Jillian Neal

Author: Jillian Neal
Publisher: Realm Press
Date of publication: December 1, 2015

Born and raised on the sunny shores of Gypsy Beach, Hope Camden is struggling to make sense of life on her husband's family cattle ranch which is often buried in three feet of snow. She willingly traded in her flip-flops for cowgirl boots, but life on the ranch isn't quite how she imagined it. Truthfully, she doesn't understand how anyone survives in a town where the cows vastly outnumber the people, the mailman reads the mail before delivering it, the doctor's office is in an old mechanic's shop, and the poodle-grooming beauty shop owner moonlights for the mortuary? Her husband is kind, sweet, and oh so sexy, but the Nebraskan winter may be more than she can withstand.

Born and bred to be a cowboy, Brock Camden is desperate to make Hope love Pleasant Glen as much as he does. There's nothing better than having his wife in his arms or in his bed. He just has to show her that life on his family's cattle ranch will be just as magical as their life on Gypsy Beach if she'll give it a chance.  A shocking twist of fate has both of them clinging tightly to one another, and Brock has to prove that he'll stand by her side come thick or thin. Will the fiery passion they have between the sheets be enough to keep them burning through the long, cold winter nights?

My thoughts:

I have only read a couple of the Gypsy Beach books, but I have enjoyed them both.  Coincidental Cowgirl continues the story of Hope and Brock from the book Gypsy Hope.  It is also the first book in a new series about Camden Ranch.  I haven't read Gypsy Hope, but I really don't think it is necessary to enjoy this novella.  Basically, Hope and Brock have recently married and moved to Nebraska to make a life on the family ranch.  They are quickly discovering that not every day is hearts and flowers.

What I liked about this story is that it really showed how reality can set in after all of the glow of the honeymoon and first stages of love wears off.  For Brock and Hope, their expectations have not really lived up to the reality of ranch life.  Neither one is willing to be open about their feelings.  That really delays their being able to settle in and start their life.  I was rooting for them to finally talk and work things out.

This is a quick and enjoyable read and the start of what looks to be a great new series.  I look forward to revisiting Camden Ranch again!

Excerpt(s):

Much to Hope’s delight, Brock appeared just as she was dipping her plate in the soapy water she’d run in the sink. “Hey, you’re here.” Drying her hands quickly, she raced into his arms. Chuckling, he hugged her to his chest, but she couldn’t access much of him. The hardened planes of his chest and his muscular arms that always made her feel safe were bundled up against the elements. The freezing cold was trapped inside his coat and chaps. It transferred to her as soon as she embraced him, but she didn’t care. She’d endure the cold to be in his arms. There was nothing better.
He set his cowboy hat on the counter. The front hung off the edge, and Hope resisted the urge to scoot it back. Apparently, that damaged the rim and made cowboys unhappy. She’d deciphered that much in the last couple weeks. Maybe with a little more time, she’d figure out more about ranch life since Brock really didn’t have time to teach her. She’d always been a quick learner. She’d figure out ranch life soon; she was determined.
Tugging off his deerskin gloves, Brock brushed a kiss on her cheek. The cold bristle of his slight beard stung her jaw. She shivered until he drew her back in his arms and mated their mouths in an unexpectedly passionate kiss. “God, I miss you.” His hands squeezed her backside and just like every time before, she let her frustrations melt in the heat that emanated between them. “You okay, darlin’?” Concern darkened the golden rims of his eyes.
She angled her head, hungry for more, when he broke the kiss. Avoiding his question, she replied to the first comment, “I miss you, too.” Her tongue stroked hers, coaxing her, tasting her mouth. A shiver that had nothing to do with the weather quaked through her body.

About the Author:

Bestselling author, Jillian Neal, was not only born 30 but also came accessorized with loads of books and adorable handbags in which to carry them, at least that's what she tells people. After earning a degree in education, she discovered that her passion could never be housed inside a classroom. A vehement lover of love and having maintained a lifelong affair with the awe-inspiring power of words, she set to turn the romance industry on its head. Her overly-caffeinated, troupe-spinning muse is never happy with the standard formula story. She believes every book should be brimming with passion, loaded with hot sexy scenes, packed with a gut-punch of emotion, and have characters that leap off the page and right into your heart.

Her first series, The Gifted Realm, defines contemporary romance with a fantasy twist. Her Gypsy Beach series will leave you longing to visit the sultry shores of the tiny bohemian beach town, and her erotic romance series, Camden Ranch, will make you certain there is nothing better than a cowboy with some chaps and a plan. The sheer amount of coffee required to keep all of those characters dancing in her head would border on lethal, so she unleashes their engaging stories on page after page of spellbinding reads.

Jillian lives outside of Atlanta with her own sexy sweetheart, their teenage sons, and enough stiletto heels, cowgirl boots, and flip-flops to exist in any of the fictional worlds she brings to life.

Blog Tour: Review & Excerpt of Gypsy Heat by Jillian Neal

Author: Jillian Neal
Publisher: Realm Press
Release Date: 8/25/2015

Nadya Montgomery was Gypsy Beach’s own personal wild child. There was nothing she wouldn’t do, especially when it came to Grady Havens. Until disaster struck and tore them apart. Desperate to protect Grady, she ran away from everything and everyone she’d ever known.

Fourteen years later, Nadya returns to the beach to try to rebuild some semblance of her life out of her ex-husband’s shadow, but that means returning to her past and seeing Grady Havens again.
Now a charter boat captain constantly trying to put his past behind him, Grady doesn’t know what to make of Nadya’s return. All he knows is she was always meant to be his, and he intends to make his claim. He wants her back in his life and most certainly back in his bed.

When his entire family is threatened, he’s caught between rekindling his relationship with Nadya and protecting what belongs to him.

Together they try to rebuild what always should have been, but their pasts are determined to keep them ensnared. As passions ignite between them, they realize that even Grady may not be able to keep her safe this time.

Gypsy Heat is the third book in the Gypsy Beach series.  The story involves Nadya and Grady.  They were childhood friends and teenage lovers until a tragedy made her run from the only home she has ever known.  Now, 14 years later, she is back after having escaped an abusive marriage.  Her plan is to regroup and plan her future.  If she can only avoid Grady Havens while doing it.  But the magic of Gyspy Beach has other plans and the two soon find themselves back in each other's arms. And let's just say there were enough sparks to last for many 4th of July celebrations when these two got back together!

I thought this was a very sweet romance.  The history that Grady and Nadya shared made their fall back in love seamless.  What I loved about this story is that the two acknowledge their past and realize they have a lot to work on before their true HEA. I feel like a lot of times in second chance romances, the reader doesn't get that sense.  I was definitely rooting for them. The story also has a pretty good mystery.  It is clear that someone in town is bent on setting up the Haven brothers and those who live on Gypsy Beach for the recent thefts and arsons.  The solution was definitely a surprise.

I highly recommend this series.  Each one can be read as a stand alone.  I can't wait to see what comes next!

Excerpt:

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Grady huffed as he studied his youngest brother. Beau had been twitchy since he’d entered the new boathouse. He looked like a wary bass circling a hook debating its fate.
“Nothing.” He bristled and fidgeted with the boat keys in his hand. Grady and Nate had been trying to sort through the old fishing boxes of contracts, receipts, licenses, and paystubs at night now that they had an actual office to hold it all.
Nate rolled his eyes. “You know he’s not gonna let it go. Whatever it is just spill it.” He thumbed through a stack of old contracts before tossing them into the trash.
Very conveniently, Beau checked his watch. “I gotta get out of here.”
Moving nothing more than his overly-muscled arm, Grady caught the back of Beau’s shirt and prevented him from escaping.
“What the hell is going on with you?”
“She asked me not to say anything … but I kind of think you should know. Maybe?” Beau made a partial confession.
Grady’s brow furrowed, and he released his little brother. “Who asked you not to say anything?”
His head dropped, and Grady barely made out the word, “Nadya.”
Nate dropped the paperwork in his hand. The entire world seemed to stop spinning at that moment. Grady was unable to make any audible sound. He was stunned.
“You saw Nadya? Like Grady’s Nadya?” Nate beat him to the punch.
“Yeah,” Beau sighed. “She was at the coffee shop. Said she was gonna be here for a few weeks, and …”
“And what?” Grady managed to grunt. His heart felt like some kind of deranged pinball ricocheting from his throat, to his ribcage, to his gut in a nauseating cadence. It rang in his ears.

Blog Tour: Gypsy Love by Jillian Neal

Author: Jillian Neal
Publisher: Smashwords
Date of publication: July 14, 2015

Arley Copeland vows never to trust anyone, much less a man, ever again. After her fledging career as a romance writer grinds to a halt and her ex blabs to the press about her preferences in bed, she heads to Gypsy Beach desperate to regain some anonymity and maybe figure out what to do next.

Divorce attorney John Rowan has been in on the explosive end of more marriages than he can count. Love never lasts. Of that he’s certain. Sick of barely existing inside the concrete jungle of Atlanta with the endless traffic and endless noise he heads towards a two-week reprieve in Gypsy Beach, North Carolina.

From the moment he lays eyes on Arley Copeland, John is determined to prove that not every guy on the planet is out to hurt her, and maybe teach her a thing or two about herself in his bed and out. With every sinfully sweet caress, they’re falling more and more in love. Their pasts may be fading away, but will John ever be prepared to risk it all on a lifetime love when he doesn’t believe such a thing could ever exist?

The great thing about reading romance is that you always get a HEA, right?  Sometimes it's fast and sometimes it takes the coupe ages to get there.  But ultimately in the end, the reader is left with a smile and a sense that the couple will make it forever. In Gypsy Love, Arley, a romance writer, talks a lot about the reasons she writes romance novels because she loves the HEA.  John is a divorce attorney who doesn't believe that can exist because he sees divorce every day in his work.  I knew this wold make for a good book and I was right.

I liked this couple's story.  I thought they were great for each other.  Their attraction was pretty intense and I think that added to the speed at which they came together. While the love declaration and HEA was a bit quick for me, I ultimately did like the book and the message.  Forever is not about doing it in a moment, it's about collecting all of your moments together to make up a lifetime.

While this is the second book in the series, I did feel it could do as a stand alone.  I do want to seek out the first book, Gypsy Beach and read how Sienna and Ryan get their second chance at love.
