Blog Tour: Sugarplum Way by Debbie Mason

Author: Debbie Mason
Publisher: Forever
Date of publication: October 31, 2017

Romance writer Julia Landon knows how to write a happily-ever-after. Creating one for herself is a whole different story. But after a surprising–and surprisingly passionate–kiss under the mistletoe at Harmony Harbor’s holiday party last year, Julia thought she might have finally found her very own chance at true love. Until she learns her Mr. Tall, Dark, and Broodingly Handsome has sworn off relationships. Well, if she can’t have him in real life, Julia knows just how to get the next best thing….
Aidan’s only priority is to be the best single dad ever. And this year, he plans to make the holidays magical for his little girl, Ella Rose. But visions of stolen kisses under the mistletoe keep dancing in his head, and when he finds out Julia has written him into her latest novel, he can’t help imagining the possibilities of a future together. Little does he know, though, Julia has been keeping a secret that threatens all their dreams. Luckily, ’tis the season for a little Christmas magic.

Sugarplum Way is the fourth book in the Harmony Harbor series.  This one is Aidan's story.  I have enjoyed this series from the beginning.  While this wasn't my favorite, it was still a sweet story.  I will caution, this doesn't hold up too well as a stand alone book.  I would urge readers to start form the beginning to understand the dynamic of the Gallagher family as well as the town.

For the most part, I enjoyed Aidan and Julia's story.  The book did start off really slow for me and I wasn't feeling the connection between the couple until about halfway through the book. It was like too many other things kept getting in the way of their story.  I was rooting for them however and I liked their HEA.   I did like that the reason behind Julia acting as a "fairy godmother" for the family was finally cleared up. Such a heartbreaking reason! I do recommend this one as well as the series.  I'm interested to see what is next for the town of Harmony Harbor.

Olivia Davenport has finally gotten her life back together. She's left her painful past behind, started over in a new town, and become Harmony Harbor's most sought-after event planner. But her past catches up to her when Olivia learns that she's now guardian of her ex's young daughter. With her world spinning, Olivia must reconcile her old life with her new one. And she doesn't have time for her new next door neighbor, no matter how handsome he is.

Olivia may act like she's got everything under control, but Dr. Finn Gallagher knows a person in over her head when he sees one. He'd really like to be the shoulder she leans on, but Olivia makes it clear she doesn't want his help. Since he's returned to town, his waiting room has been full of single women feigning illness. Yet the one woman he's interested in is avoiding him. But with a little help from some matchmaking widows and a precocious little girl, Finn might just win Olivia over.

BONUS: The eBook edition includes a complete novel from BookShots Flames, THE MCCULLAGH INN IN MAINE by Jen McLaughlin!

My thoughts:

Primrose Lane is the third in the Harmony Harbor  series.  This is Olivia and Finn's story.   For the most part, I enjoyed this installment. The first in the series iss till my fvorite so far.   The thing that I love most about this series is the relationship of the brothers, wives and family members.  They are all great characters. I love their banter and and antics.  It makes for some very amusing reading. I loved the shark scene.

As far as the romance between Finn and Olivia, I wasn't too into it at first, but they grew on me as the book progressed.  What I loved more about the story was the relationship between Olivia and George.  I just loved watching that relationship blossom and grow.  It was gut wrenching at times and completely sweet at others.  Their HEA was the one I was most looking forward to toward the end of the book.  I'll leave it to you to discover who George is and how important this character ends up being to Olivia.

Of course, we are also treated to ghost Colleen again throughout the book.  Her antics to try to meddle in with her family are always amusing.  I am looking forward to the next book. I hope it's Aiden's story!

Excerpt:

Dana leaned down to scoop her phone off the ground. No sooner had she picked it up than it rang. She recognized the number. Her finger trembled when she rejected the call. She should answer and get it over with. It might be something as simple as sending her copies of her divorce papers. But she didn’t believe that was all her lawyer wanted. Because every time she saw his number, the small hairs on the back of her neck stood on end, and she was overcome by a heavy sense of foreboding.
Strong fingers closed around her wrist. “Dana, relax. Take slow, even breaths or you’ll hyperventilate. That’s a girl,” Finn said when she did as he suggested, his other hand going to the nape of her neck. He gently massaged the tight muscles there, murmuring his encouragement as she got herself under control. There was no judgment in his voice. Just kindness and concern.
She’d heard Finn was well loved and respected by the people he served with Doctors Without Borders. She now had a better understanding why. Leaning against him, she was enveloped by the strength and warmth of his body and the seductive scent of his cologne.
“Thank you.” She self-consciously pulled away. “We should probably get going. I have to be back at the manor by two to get organized for the children’s craft session. They’re going to paint flowerpots for their mothers. I was going to use pink tulips but your dog trampled them, so maybe I’ll go with hyacinths. I think there’ll be enough. They’re pretty, and they mean constant love and fertility. That should work, don’t you think?”
“I have no idea what you're talking about. And not to be rude, but I really don’t care. What I do care about is who’s trying to contact you. It’s obvious that they frighten you, Dana. Why don’t you let me help?”
“No, it’s not what you think. I’m fine, honestly.”
“Sure you are, because perfectly fine people have panic attacks when they get a call in the middle of the afternoon, take too many sleeping pills, and wear a disguise. Come on, what do you take me for? At least do me the courtesy of being honest.”
All she could do was blink up at him, the warm feelings of moments ago shriveling up in response to his Arctic-cold words. She’d been right the day she met him. He probably did have a God complex. He might be ten years younger than her ex-husband, but he was just as sanctimonious and judgmental.

Blog Tour: Review & excerpt of Starlight Bridge by Debbie Mason

Author: Debbie Mason
Date of publication:: February 28, 2017
Publisher: Forever

A second chance for romance...

Hidden in Graystone Manor is a book containing all the dark secrets of Harmony Harbor, and Ava DiRossi is determined to find it. No one—especially not her ex-husband, Griffin Gallagher—can ever discover what really tore her life apart all those years ago. With Griffin back in town, it's more important than ever that she find the book before someone else does. Because her ex is still angry with her for leaving him. And he still has no idea Ava never stopped loving him...

Ava is no longer the vibrant, happy woman Griffin had once loved and married, and he would do anything to bring back the sparkle to her brilliant green eyes. But what's never changed are the sexy sparks of attraction between Ava and Griffin, and he won't give her up again without a fight. He knows there's the real possibility of a future together...if the truth doesn't burn the bridge between them forever.

Starlight Bridge is the second book in the Harmony Harbor series.  This is Ava and Griffin's story.  They were seen in the first book.  Having been married to each other at a young age, their marriage fell apart and Griffin never knew why.  Now he is moving back to Harmony Harbor and is hoping for a second chance with his ex-wife.  But, there are a few obstacles in the way.

I didn't love this one as much as I did the first one. Don't get me wrong, I loved Ava and Griffin!  I a was rooting for them to get back together. Ava's secret was horrible and gut wrenching. Their HEA was really sweet. I just wish the story focused more on the two of them. I will admit that some of my favotire scenes include Colleen the ghost.  She was a favorite from the first book and I was happy to see her back.

I kind of felt like there was a bit too much going on in this book. Between Ava's father, the hunt for the book and the cooking competition, it felt a little chaotic.  I really didn't care for the storyline with Griffin and Lexi.  It just felt really uncomfortable and I thought everyone was too OK with it.

I'm not sure this one stood up well as a stand alone book.  Having read the first one, I knew the back story behind the hotel and Colleen the ghost.  I'm not sure there was enough in this book that would help out a new to the series reader. A new reader to the series would probably benefit from reading Mistletoe Cottage first. I do recommend reading both though. I look forward to the next one.

Enjoy this excerpt!

She sensed Griffin rising to his feet and heard him placing his mug on the desk. And then he was there, crouched in front of her. He took her mug, setting it on the floor before he gently smoothed the rough pads of his fingers over her cheek. “You know it kills me to see you cry.”
“Still?” she murmured without looking at him.
“Yeah, looks like,” he said, sounding as though the admission cost him.
A tiny flicker of hope ignited inside her. She smothered it, unwilling to put herself in the position of being disappointed. She didn’t think her heart could withstand another blow today.
“I know you did more than smooth the way for my father, Griffin. I don’t believe Gino’s monthly pension checks and insurance will come close to covering the cost. I need to know what I owe you. I doubt I can pay it all at once though, so maybe we could come up with a monthly payment plan?”
At her suggestion, a muscle pulsed in his clenched jaw, and his eyes narrowed. She was familiar with that look. It didn’t bode well for her repayment plan. And maybe because of that small hope that refused to be denied, she raised her hand to trace his stubbled jaw with her finger. “You know that look always annoyed me,” she said, thinking back to how long it had been since she’d touched him this way.
“Yeah, and you always knew how to get rid of it. Never could hold out against you for long.” His eyes darkened as though remembering their standoffs always ended in bed.
“What are we doing?” she whispered, the heat in his eyes weakening her resolve. She had to know if it was just her imagination. She’d deal with the consequences later.
“I—”
The study door swung open, and her cousin rushed in. “Ava, are—Oh, I…” Sophie’s gaze moved from Griffin to Ava. “Am I interrupting?”
Griffin rose to his feet, and Ava didn’t know if it was relief or regret she saw on his face.
He glanced at his watch. “I better get going. I have to meet up with Sully.”
Ah, so it had been relief after all, she thought, fighting to keep the disappointment from showing on her face.
Sophie smiled, stepping in front of Griffin as he walked to the door. “Welcome home,” she said, giving him a hug. “We’re so glad you took the job.”
“Job?” Ava asked, and there it was again, hope. Only this time it came out in her voice.
Griffin turned with his hand on the doorknob. “Sully offered me a job with the Coast Guard. Thought it was about time I came home.” He held her gaze. “We’ll talk later. If you need me, call.”
Sophie stared at her, openmouthed. “He…You.” Sophie found her voice and looked from the door to Ava. “What did I just interrupt?”
“I’m not sure,” she murmured, glad she was sitting, otherwise her legs might have given out.

Blog Tour: Review and Excerpt of Mistletoe Cottage by Debbie Mason

'Tis the season for love…

Sophie DiRossi loved growing up in Harmony Harbor. But after fleeing in disgrace many years ago, it is the last place she wants to be. Left homeless by a fire, she's forced to go back to the small coastal town that harbors a million secrets, including her own. Sophie sees this secret reflected every day in her daughter's blue eyes—and she must keep it hidden from the only man she has ever loved.

Sophie's return is a shock for everyone…especially Liam Gallagher. The firefighter had some serious feelings for Sophie-and seeing her again sparks a desire so fierce it takes his breath away. Now Liam will do whatever it takes to show Sophie that they deserve a second chance at love, even if everything they've concealed threatens to keep them apart. In this special town at this special time of the year, Sophie and Liam can only hope for a little holiday magic...

Mistletoe Cottage is the first in a new series about a charming northeast town called Harmony Harbor.  It has one of my favorite story lines..a second chance at love.  But of course, nothing is ever simple.  Sophie has a huge secret about her daughter Mia and she wants to hide it from Liam, the boy she used to love.  It's not what you think it is, and I'm not going to spoil it for you.  You'll have to read to find out.

While I loved Sophie and Liam together, I think I fell in love with Liam and Mia's relationship more.  I loved how that little girl melted his heart and made him want a future.  I know this is going to be a favorite series of mine.  It's filled with great characters who I know will have great stories in future books. There is a lot jam packed into this book, so make sure you are comfortable because you will get sucked in very quickly! If you are looking for a good book to get you into the holiday spirit, make sure to grab your copy today.  For a sneak peek, check out the excerpt below.
Excerpt:
The door to the bathroom opened. Liam lowered his razor to smile at Mia and Sophie.
Sophie slammed the door in his face. “You stay right where you are,” she ordered him from the other side. “Mia baby, let’s go check out your bedroom.”
He heard the sound of their retreating footsteps and shrugged. He wasn’t sure what the problem was. He’d just lifted the razor to his chin when the door reopened and Sophie stepped inside, closing it behind her. Her eyes flitted over him, then she raised her gaze to meet his, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. He grinned at her reaction. At least he wasn’t the only one feeling the attraction.
She glared at him. “If you wanted to give me a welcome-to-the-apartment present, flowers or a plant would have been a better idea than . . . than this.” Her hand fluttered between them.
“You think I’m your welcome-to-the-apartment present?” he said, unable to keep the amusement from his voice.
“It’s not funny, Liam. I have an impressionable daughter. You can’t just show up at my apartment half naked, expecting to—”
He put the razor down and turned to her, crossing his arms. “Think what?”
“Don’t do that. It won’t work,” she said, her eyes landing somewhere between his chest and the towel.
“Soph, you’ve lost me. I don’t have a clue—”
“Please, as if you don’t know how sexy you look right now standing there all naked and wet with your muscles on display.”
He looked down at himself then raised his gaze to hers while holding back a full-out grin as it hit him what was going on. He didn’t plan to enlighten her just yet. He was having too much fun. “You forgot my impressive abs.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Where are your clothes? You need to get dressed and . . . What are you doing?” she asked as he closed the distance between.
Her palms landed on his chest when he crowded her against the door. “I just thought, since I went to all this trouble to surprise you, you could at least give me a kiss.”
“No, Mia is in the next room.” She stared at his mouth. “And even if I wanted to kiss you, you have shaving cream on your face.”
“Admit it. You like your present. And you really, really want to kiss me.”
The corner of her mouth lifted as her hands inched their way up his chest and around his neck. She leaned into him. “Yes, I like my present. But I’d like it a whole lot more if Mia wasn’t with me. And I might want to kiss you a little.”
“A lot,” he said and cupped her face in his hands, lowering his mouth to hers. He wanted to linger, to explore her sweet mouth with a deep, consuming kiss. Instead, because Mia was down the hall, he went with soft and tender and long enough that she’d feel how much he wanted her.
He pulled back. Her face was tipped up, her eyes closed. He smiled at the shaving cream covering the lower half of her face and slowly trailed his finger through it to draw a foamy line of white down her neck. With her eyes still closed, she leaned back against the door, a small hum of pleasure escaping from between her parted lips. He ducked his head and whispered. “You like that, don’t you?”
She opened her heavy-lidded eyes and nodded, watching him as he dipped his fingers beneath the V of her caramel-colored sweater.
He felt her shiver beneath his fingers and moved her hair off her shoulders with his other hand before rubbing his cheek against hers. He’d never look at shaving cream the same way. He wanted to cover every inch of her . . .
A knock sounded on the door.  She shoved him away. Her eyes wide and glazed, she wiped frantically at her face. “Be right there, baby.”
Liam grimaced. He’d gotten so carried away he’d forgotten about Mia. “Sorry, Soph. Give me a sec, and I’ll get some clothes on.” He turned to open the door leading into his apartment.
“You have got to be kidding me,” she said.
Liam glanced over his shoulder. “Nope, your apartment shares a bathroom with mine. Welcome to the neighborhood,” he said with a wink.
