Blog Tour: Seeking the Star by Traci Borum

Date of publication:  October 2015

One December night, in the sleepy Cotswold village of Chilton Crosse, a drifter named Ben collapses on George and Mary Cartwright’s snow-covered doorstep. As Christmas cheer spreads throughout the village with a Dickens-themed festival, Mary nurses Ben back to health, but she becomes curious about the secrets he seems to carry.

On Christmas Eve, one of Ben’s secrets accidentally comes to light, forcing him to confront the darkness of his past and to rediscover the faith he once knew.

Seeking the Star is the third book in the Chilton Crosse series.  I have enjoyed this series so far and was looking forward to this latest installment.  This one was shorter and a lot more serious than the first two.  Ben has been wandering the countryside, trying to run from the nightmares that haunt his days and nights.  When he collapses on the Cartwright's doorstep, he doesn't realize that this town may be his salvation.

I won't talk too much about plot because it would give too much away.  I will say that this book is both heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time.  My heart absolutely broke for what Ben was going through.  But I loved how the town just surrounded him with their kindness and friendship. It is a great story that really fits what the upcoming season is all about. The characters from the first two books do make appearances in this one.  It was nice to catch up with them and see them doing so well.

As I said, I enjoy this series and I look forward to seeing what happens next in this sweet little village.

About the author:

Traci Borum is an insatiable bookworm whose first love is fiction.  As a little girl, she became mesmerized with books—with the textures, the smells, and most especially, the worlds created between the pages.  Years later, she discovered she could create her own worlds by writing.  She’s been scribbling away ever since, writing bits of poetry, articles, and especially fiction.

Traci has been a Creative Writing teacher at a community college for the past ten years.  She's a native Texan and an Anglophile at heart.  She owns two "British" dogs—a Corgi and a Sheltie—and she’s completely addicted to Masterpiece Theater (must be those dreamy British accents!).  More than anything, she treasures the friendships in her life and adores her supportive family.

Blog Tour: Finding the Rainbow by Traci Borum

Author: Traci Borum

Date of publication: May 2015

Holly Newbury’s life is on hold in the cozy English village of Chilton Crosse. While her friends are marrying, having children, and embarking on successful careers, Holly is raising her three younger sisters and working part time at the village art gallery. Her life feels incomplete, but family is more important to her than anything. Then a film crew’s arrival galvanizes the community, and Holly becomes fast friends with Fletcher Hays, the movie’s love-shy American writer.

The production of an Emma film isn’t the only drama in town, though. Their father makes a choice that threatens everything she gave up her dreams for. Holly’s sisters endure growing pains. And Fletcher plans to return to America as soon as filming is over, ruining any chance of their relationship blossoming further. After years of sacrificing for others, Holly must find the courage to take a risk on a future she never dared to expect.

Are you an Austen fan?  I definitely am and Emma is in my top two Austin favorites.  So, when I started reading Finding the Rainbow, and began to see Emma parallels, I was thrilled.  But, you don't have to be an Austin fan to appreciate the sweetness of this book.   This is the second in the Chilton Crosse series.  I loved Painting the Moon and was happy that this one didn't disappoint!  It takes place a while after the events of the first book and focuses on Holly.  She has been living at home helping to take care of her younger sisters.  I loved Holly's character. I was really rooting for her to be able to realize her dreams.

The relationship between Fletcher and Holly was so fun to watch.  The fact that they find a deep friendship only sweetened their HEA in the end.  Friends to lovers have always been my favorite type of romance.  To me, it makes the relationship that much stronger in the end.

It wouldn't be Chilton Crosee without a great cast of characters.  They add flavor and color to an already wonderful book.  This one can be read as a stand alone, but you won't regret reading both Chilton Chilton adventures.  I look forward to reading the next one!

Blog Tour: Painting the Moon by Traci Borum

When Noelle Cooke inherits a quaint English cottage and an art gallery from her famous Aunt Joy, she welcomes a departure from her San Diego routine. But the lure of the Cotswolds, combined with a locked cottage room and a revealing journal, entice her to stay and discover more, including a way to save the gallery from financial ruin. And that means remaining in England.

When her childhood sweetheart, Adam Spencer, begins work on a restoration project in Noelle’s village, their friendship blossoms. But as her feelings for Adam deepen, she struggles with memories of what might have been and yearns for a future once thought lost. Faced with a life-altering revelation Aunt Joy took to her grave and a wrenching choice regarding the man she loves, Noelle could lose far more than her heart.

I really enjoyed Painting the Moon.  It captured my attention from the first page and I didn't put it down until the end.  It is such a sweet story about finding home and love and getting a second chance. Noelle gets that when she goes to England to settle her great-aunt's estate.   Through the "surprises" that her aunt left her, she is able to work through her feelings on the past and figure out what she wants for her life.  I loved the way the village embraced her and accepted her as one of their own.

At the same time it is a bit heart wrenching.  Imagine reconnecting with your first love and finding him engaged to another woman.  I felt bad for Noelle in her struggle with her feelings for Adam and trying to find a balance to be just his friend. I was rooting for her the whole time and hoped things work would work out in her favor at the end.

I definitely recommend this one.  It would make a great beach read or one to cozy up with on a rainy day.  Reading it made me want to take a trip to England and visit the countryside!  I look forward to reading more from this author!
