Review: Into the Storm by Christina Sol

Author: Christina Sol
Publication Date: December 2025

She's looking to start fresh, free from any entanglements. He's not relationship material and is content living a quiet life. When their paths collide, the chemistry between them can't be denied. But danger swirls around them...

For hairstylist Freya Hansen, relocating to Hudson Island gives her the chance to shed her old life and start over. When her newfound peace is shattered, she struggles to pick up the pieces, until a mysterious stranger steps in. A history of failed relationships has left her questioning her own judgement, no matter how intriguing she finds him.

Xander Bonetti has left his wild ways behind him and is more than happy to focus on his work--leading Hudson Security's personal security division. But when he spies the petite hairdresser after an incident at the Pacific View Resort, his protective instincts kick into high gear. And when a threat from her past brings trouble to her doorstep, even while knowing his heart could be on the line, he'll do anything to protect her.

As the heat between Xander and Freya grows, so does the danger that looms around them. Not only must they unravel decades-old clues to end the unseen threat targeting Freya, but they must also let go of their fears and secrets or they'll lose their chance at a once in a lifetime love.

My thoughts:

Into the Storm is the second book in the Hudson security Series.  This one is Xander and Freya's story.  I swear, this series gets better and better.  I know it's only the second book, but I love these characters and this series.  I loved this one.  Xander and Freya have the sweetest chemistry.  I loved watching them fall for each other.  It was adorable how they both had insecurities and how that played into their courtship.  It wasn't annoying, it was actually endearing.  I also loved how Xander's friends and colleagues had his back and encouraged him.  The mystery definitely came out of nowhere.  I was completely wrong as to what who was threatening Freya.  I won't spoil any more.  I just highly recommend you pick this up.

My thoughts:

Out of the Shadows is a new series surrounding Hudson Security.  It's an off-shoot of the Hudson Island series.  We are introduced to more members of the company and get to know ones that showed up in the previous series a bit better.  This one focuses on Gavin and Sabrina or "Bean" as she is known to everyone.

I really enjoyed this one.  It felt like visiting old friends. I am a huge fan of the Hudson Island series.  I know this new series will be just as good.  The mystery was really good with a lot of action.  But more than that, I loved how the relationship between Gavin and Bean developed.  I loved how unsure and awkward they both were.  It was adorable.  Having been friends and colleagues for years, it just made  their love story that much better.  I don't want to give anything away, so I will highly recommend you read it.

Scarlet Miller has flown under the radar on peaceful Hudson Island for the past year and a half, working hard to build a safe and quiet life for her four-year-old daughter. During that time, she formed unexpected friendships—and a crush on the handsome friend-of-a-friend who’s the epitome of tall, dark, and growly hotness. However, since he’s much older and way out of her league, she knows nothing will come of it. Besides, with her chaotic history, romantic relationships are off the table.

Matt Alvarez has come a long way since arriving on Hudson Island angry, bitter, and reclusive. With time, therapy, and the help of his friends, he’s recovered from a career-threatening injury and joined Hudson Security. He’s eager to make a positive difference through his work, and while he’s not the most social guy, he’s looking forward to building relationships in his newfound community. Well, except for Scarlet. Something about the beautiful waitress with the rainbow-streaked hair ties his tongue in knots. But no matter how alluring he finds her, she’s way too young for him. Which is fine, because after a dramatic divorce, the last thing he wants is any sort of commitment.

When dire circumstances push them together, their protective walls crumble, revealing an undeniable connection. But as their relationship blossoms, Scarlet’s buried secrets claw to the surface, bringing unforeseen perils with them. Can Matt protect Scarlet from the shadows of her past? Or will her skeletons destroy their future?

Shattered Secrets
is the 4th book in the Hudson Island series.  This one is Matt and Scarlet's story.  I have been looking forward to this couple for a while and I ended up staying up late to read this book in one sitting.  Matt has always become so tongue tied around Scarlet in past books, so I knew their story would be so good.  I wasn't disappointed.

It's hard to talk about the book without giving away spoilers. Let's jut say that when they get together it's explosive.  I loved that their story was a slow burn.  This couple just really made sense. Both of them have a lot of baggage from their past, but their relationship was the medicine that allowed their wounds to heal.  I also loved the relationship that formed between Matt and little Daisy.  It was really cute.  As with the other books in the series, there is a mystery and some action.  I was glued to my seat.  I highly recommend this one as well as the series.  I can't wait for Gavin's story!

She's a small-town boutique owner. He's a world-famous former MMA champion. They're both wary of relationships, but the attraction between them is undeniable. When someone threatens the life he's built, everyone he loves becomes a target...

Fresh out of a messy divorce, Poppy Walker is determined to stay strong and grow her business, Rainy Day Boutique. But while her twin sons are thriving during their first year away at college, she’s all alone for the first time in years, fighting to hide the internal scars from her failed marriage. The last thing on her mind is dating…but a certain local celebrity athlete is determined to win her over.

Cade de la Rosa is riding high as one of the top mixed martial arts coaches in the world, and he’s more than happy to focus all his attention on his gym and fighters. His fame and fortune taught him the hard way that trust is a rare thing, so he’s avoided relationships for years, keeping his flings brief and casual. That’s why his endless fascination with the pretty and sassy boutique owner is the last thing he expects.

Drawn together by a series of perilous events, Poppy and Cade quickly go from acquaintances to friends. As their magnetic connection lures them closer and their chemistry proves explosive, an unseen enemy puts everything at risk. Will their relationship survive the danger? Or will it get cut short by the person who wants to destroy everything—and everyone—Cade holds dear?

Shattered Dreams is the third book in the Hudson Island series.  This one is Poppy and Cade's story.  It definitely can be read as a stand alone book.  I really enjoyed this one.  Cade and Poppy were so adorable.  I loved how Cade made Poppy feel beautiful and desired.  She really deserved to finally feel all of that.  I also loved how her twins interreacted with Cade and how protective they were of their mom.  It was very sweet.  The mystery and the action was pretty intense and it made me want to keep reading.  I am loving this series and I can't wait for the next book.

Review: Shattered Illusions by Christina Sol

Author:
Christina Sol
Publication Date: October 2023

They’re best friends turned bitter enemies. Forced to live together, they call a truce and sparks ignite. But someone is watching. Someone who’ll do anything to destroy her…

Roxie Jameson is often called a workaholic. She prefers to call herself driven. As the owner of Comfort Food, a café and catering company on Hudson Island, she embraces the constant hustle of entrepreneurial life. Especially since her jam-packed to-do list gives her zero time to dwell on how tired and lonely she is. But when her archnemesis—and former best friend—returns to the island, Roxie’s structured schedule gets thrown off course.

Joe Buchanan has resigned from the FBI and returns home to Hudson Island without a plan. He’s at a crossroads both professionally and personally. However, before he can determine his next move, he must fix the friendship with Roxie that he so callously destroyed three years ago—and acknowledge his long-denied feelings for her.

While Roxie and Joe learn to forgive their past mistakes, they find themselves increasingly and irresistibly drawn together. But when a mysterious threat emerges, will their fragile relationship endure? And will they find a way to trust each other before it's too late?

Shattered Illusions is the second book in the Hudson Island series.  This one is Joe and Roxie's story.  I had been looking forward to this one since the first book, Shattered Vows.  They used to be best friends and now they are enemies.  No one knows why they had a falling out, not even Roxie.  Now Joe is back in town and someone is targeting Roxie.

I enjoyed this one just as much as the first book.  I loved Roxie and Joe.  I loved that they were friends to enemies to lovers.  It was obvious that they had loved each other their whole lives.  They msytery was not obvious to me, but it definitely made sense once revealed.  In this one, we also get introduced to a whole bunch of other alpha males who I can't wait to meet more in depth in their stories.  Note: If you sign up for this author's newsletter, you can get a free bonus epilogue scene.  It was adorable and completely satisfying ending.

My thoughts:

Shattered Vows is a romantic suspense involving Alex who has come to the island to heal and hide from her abusive husband.    Quinn is the small town sheriff who his friend Joe has asked to watch over Alex.  I really enjoyed this romance.  While it was a bit quick, their love story was fun to watch.  I loved the way Quinn took his time gaining Alex's trust and let her set the pace.  Especially given all she had been through.  I was fully invested in them. Just be aware that there are graphic descriptions of domestic violence.  I also loved the town and how the residents embraced Alex.  I highly recommend this one.  I can't wait to read Roxy and Joe's story!
