Blog Tour: Review & Excerpt from Virtue by Ida Brady

by Ida Brady

Savannah loves nothing more than a good romp in the sack. If she’s not doing it with her paraplegic gamer boyfriend, Arcas, she’s at the very least daydreaming about it, preferably with a duke from the 19th century. Her overactive imagination means she can’t help but fantasize about the R-rated pastimes of the peerage, adding her own scintillating scenes to her favorite historical romance, Love and Honor.

By day, she dreams about the commanding Duke of Maddern and his seduction of Miss Emmaline Collins, the innocent, headstrong beauty whose heart he broke long ago. By night, she embarks on a year-long sex challenge: to experience and document her wild bedroom antics in her online blog, Sexcapades.
But when her conservative past threatens her newfound freedom, Savannah must find the courage to stay the course. Hovering between Regency England and modern-day Melbourne, she begins a journey of sexual exploration that no one had seen coming.
Not even her trusty little Rabbit.

My Thoughts:

Virtue follows Savannah who is living with her boyfriend and embarks on a journey exploring her sexuality with his blessing.  She decides to record her thoughts and escapades on a blog.  I'll be honest, this one just wasn't for me.  I felt like there wasn't a lot of character development.  It was really just filled with sex scenes, both real life and the scenes she made up using characters from her favorite historical romance.  There was just too much and I got bored with them.  Its a HFN ending.  Even though this wasn't for me, give it a try because it might be for you.

Savannah stroked the spine of the book, a smile playing at her lips.
It was her umpteenth time reading Love and Honor, a classic nineteenth-century romance and all she could think about was why the Duke of Maddern didn’t bend Miss Collins over his desk and show her just how proud he could be.
She could picture him in the library now, stalking towards Emmaline, demanding she lift her skirts.
Her imagination beckoned along with her desire.

The Duke followed Miss Collins into the library, his cock straining against his breeches. He shut the door behind him firmly, the sharp click reverberating through the empty room. Time was limited. Flustered and uncertain, Emmaline’s chaperone, an older, unmarried relative, had accepted the Earl’s offer to dance. He owed Lord Stanton a great sum for the diversion.

The moon was particularly bright this evening, piercing through the windows, illuminating the beauty of the woman before him. All softness had faded, though the years had not been unkind. There was a haunting beauty to her visage, a sadness that shadowed her graceful movements. For as long as he could remember, she had conducted herself as a lady. Indeed, she was, if not for the inconvenience of her father’s station, a lady in every respect. She would always be so in his mind.

Was he in his cups, or were her lips an even darker shade of peony than he remembered? Even with her brow pinched and her mouth downturned, she stirred a long-forgotten feeling inside.

He knew it was not right to be alone with her in this fashion. Even still, he would chase this woman to the most exotic, far-off continents.

“I’ve been thinking about you since Mrs. Perryweather’s play.”

He watched as one round shoulder lifted in nonchalance. Despite the casual gesture, her eyes shimmered with unspoken thoughts.

Once he had been privy to such musings, but no longer.

“Is that so, Your Grace? I thought you were rather occupied.”

Maddern had been overrun by young ladies eager to make his acquaintance. He was quite a catch according to the meddling mammas. Yet not one of the simpering ingénues had stirred his appetite.

He knew what they said. After all, he was a duke with a considerable fortune. A duty, he found, that was akin to a hangman’s noose. Maddern was weary of doing what was expected. None of it mattered if he didn’t get what he truly desired.

The woman standing before him.

Miss Emmaline Collins.

She was stubborn and impertinent. Bold in her manner. And she harbored a hatred for him that had not dissipated over time. He intended to bring her to heel, perhaps over his bended knee. The image was too illicit to fathom, but once it had taken up residence in his head, he was determined to make it a reality.

“Don’t play coy with me. I am not a fool,” Maddern rumbled.
“One must not laugh at the noble Duke. He is, after all, such a jovial, candid man.”
“Lift those skirts, wench, and I will show you the real meaning of candid.”

Blog Tour: Review of Aphrodite in Bloom by Anonymous

Title:
Aphrodite in Bloom.
Author: Anonymous
Genre: Erotic Short Stories

Don’t miss this extraordinary collection of twelve inventive and sophisticated stories guaranteed to awaken the forbidden desires of a new generation. From the sweetly romantic to the sublimely taboo, each provocative novella offers an opportunity to explore your most secret fantasies.

A virgin receives an especially satisfying gift at a masked ball...

A duke offers to settle a man’s debt for one night with his wife...

As an introduction to a secret club, a viscount’s heir is made over into a woman—and discovers her true self...

Plus nine more sensual stories of libidinous lust, catering to the tastes of varying sexual appetites. Whatever your fancy, Aphrodite in Bloom is ready and willing to serve…

My thoughts:
Aphrodite in Bloom is an erotica anthology.  Each story is an erotic novella filled with steamy sex scenes and dashing dukes.  There is definitely something for everyone in here. One of the tag lines for this anthology is "find the story you'll return to again and again".  For me, it would have to be the first story.  I liked the set up and it's one I would have loved to have been a longer story.  The second story was enjoyable as well.  As for the rest, I will admit that they weren't my cup of tea.
One thing I appreciated about this book was the disclaimer at the beginning of each story.  It allowed me to decide if I wanted to read the content of each story.  Some I did and some were a hard no for me.  But that is OK.  That is what is great about books like this.  Something for everyone and every taste.  Maybe you'll find a favorite among the pages.  Make sure to check it out.

Advance Praise:
“The varying stories and sexual proclivities of the characters is wonderful and opens up (pun intended) a whole host of new fantasies for the reader. I liked the fact that a trigger warning preceded each new story so that the reader could choose whether or not each story was for them. Very hot and flustering read - heartily recommended.” --Jacqueline W, NetGalley
“An enjoyable set of short erotic stories with something for everyone.” --Ruth’s Romance
“A series of steamy erotic stories that will set your e-reader on fire.” --Kristin B, NetGalley
“This was a great steamy read full of many historical novellas. I really enjoyed it but recommend not reading in public.” --Sarah R, NetGalley

My thoughts:
Beneath the Sheets is a very very short story about a second chance at romance.  I'll be honest, the story felt like I tuned into the last 20 minutes of a TV show and was a bit lost.  It was almost like it was an outline for a longer story.  I would have liked a lot more meat to it in order to get to know the couple more.  The bedroom scene was definitely steamy and well written.  I just wanted more.  If you are just looking for a hot sex scene, then I would recommend this one.

Blog Tour: Review of Tempting Fate by S. A. Clayton

Author: S.A. Clayton
Release: January 25, 2021
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Light BDSM
Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/56313821-tempting-fate
Cover Design: Kari March

Everything with Jade began at Club Temptation, so it makes sense fate would bring us back together here. She looks so incredibly beautiful it takes my breath. So insanely sexy. And from the look in her eyes…she still hates me.

I thought leaving Jade behind six years ago was my only option. I didn’t want to admit how much she meant to me, and I definitely didn’t want to face her brother, my best friend—the man who would have killed me if he found out I was sleeping with his little sister.

But leaving was the worst mistake I ever made.

Yet I’ve returned, and behind all the hatred she claims to have for me, I can see the same desire she had all those years ago. And I plan to use that to my advantage.

She has no idea what I have in store—the ways I plan to tempt her.

Oh, this is going to be fun.

NOTE: Tempting Fate is a Lady Boss Press book and is connected to Kristen Proby's With Me in Seattle Universe

Buy Links (Kindle Unlimited):

Tempting Fate is a quick novella that is connected to Kristin Proby's With Me in Seattle Universe.  There are several novellas that are connected in this way.  For the most part, I enjoyed the story.  As with most novellas, I wish it was longer.  I felt like I didn't really know much about Jade or Gage personally.  That was definitely due to the short length.  The couple did have intense chemistry and I liked them together.  It was a fun and sexy escape and I do recommend it.

Blog Tour: Review & Giveaway of Sweet Poisons by Natalie Bennett

Author:  Natalie Bennett
(Pretty Lies, Ugly Truths Duets, #1)
Publication date: June 18th 2019
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Purchase:

Rhett Sullivan.

Mysterious boy painted in shades of red.
Nova Markov
Eccentric girl dripping in sunshine.
He was the type mother’s warned their little girls about—a cocky, rich asshole with a pretty smile, unapologetically insane and wild.
I was the type guys like him usually ignored—a free spirit who hid my crazy beneath an odd good girl facade, and the art hanging on my studio walls.
We were opposites in every way but one, and we collided like two runaway trains that never had a chance of stopping.
What blossomed between us, our ‘relationship’, was maniacal.
We got stuck in a cycle of madness.
Rhett Sullivan became a bittersweet poison I couldn’t get enough of.
In the end, that’s what destroyed me.
Because in the end?
Our love was nothing but a lie.

**I said I was done slapping warning labels on my book babies this year, but since I have never written full on NA yet, I’m going to give a tiny one now. This will be the only label this duet will have. If you are not a fan of twisted stories that deal with dark themes, rich assholes, and lots of filthy sex, this will not appeal to you. This couple is not unicorns and rainbows and neither is their story.

Before you read my review, I will direct you to the mini warning from the author above. There are definitely trigger warnings that are needed for this book.  For the most part, I liked the story.  Both Nova and Rhett have major secrets.  Unfortunately, the book ends on a cliff hanger, so I will have to wait for the answers in the sequel.  It's hard to say that I "enjoyed" the story since it's very dark and made me uncomfortable at times.  However, I am hooked enough to want to keep going to see what they are hiding and if they get a HEA.  With the exception of one sex scene (which has no consent), they are very dirty and freaking hot.     If you like dark and twisted romances, give this one a try.

Blog Tour: Review of Strictly Confidential by Lynda Aicher

Author: Lynda Aicher
Publisher: Carina Press
Date of publication:  August 28, 2018

From Lynda Aicher, author of the bestselling Wicked Play books, comes an exclusive invitation to the Boardroom—where working late has its rewards.

Life is about power—who has it, who doesn’t.
Anyone who says otherwise hasn’t spent time in Kennedy Keller’s business-casual two-point-five-inch heels. A woman in a world very much run by men, Kennedy does whatever it takes to keep her power, in the office and outside of it.

Until she lets her guard down and decides to submit to a man for just one night. He’s everything she doesn’t usually let herself have: sexy, strong…dominant.

Matt Hamilton said goodbye to the Dom life years ago—power games and the delectable push/pull of dominance and submission might start in the bedroom, but it never stays there.

Reunited in the Boardroom, Matt and Kennedy test their desires and boundaries…and learn that one night is never just one night.

Strictly Confidential is the third book in the "Boardroom" series.  I did read the novella that started things out, Done Deal. So I understood the basic premise of "The Boardroom".  Basically, it's private club of people who like to explore their kink side in a safe and private environment.  The name comes from them using boardrooms of the members after hours.  Scenarios are set up ahead of time and rules are set into place.  This book features Kennedy and Matt.  They have a semi anonymous one night stand and days later they end up in The Boardroom by coincidence. They find out their one night stand wasn't enough for them.

This book kind of confused me on a few levels.  I didn't mind the club idea too much because it was all consensual.  If that is your thing , then go for it.  But I was confused by Kennedy and Matt in regards to what they wanted in their relationship.  He was a dom, but didn't want a sub and she liked to give up control but wasn't a sub?  The back and forth of all of that ended up being a bit too confusing.  While I liked them together and as individual characters, the insta-love was too quick for me.  What I loved most about the book was Matt's relationship with his kids and mother.  I loved those moments in the book.

In the end, this was just an OK read for me.  I may pick up the next one. What I really want is to know what is up with Trevor and Dani.  That is the story I want!

2 in 1 Novellas: Rough Ride by A.S. Green & Reporting In by Vanessa North

Rough Ride
Author: A. S Green
Publisher: Carina Press
Date of publication:  July 2018

Summer in the barn at Camp Winnepauk is about to get interesting

For years, part-time cowboy Luke has obsessed over a beautiful green-eyed girl he once saw in a magazine. Not a model, just a girl who captured his imagination…and then fueled every sexual fantasy he’s had ever since. When that picture comes to life in the form of Tess, a twenty-year-old counselor-in-training with a sexual appetite that rivals his own, Luke has finally met his match.

Tess wasn’t thrilled about spending the summer mucking out horse stalls, but things take a dramatic turn when she meets Luke. The tall, lean cowboy delivers more than she could have hoped for, showing her exactly what her body is capable of. There won’t be weeks of flirtation for these two: Tess is impatient and her cowboy…does…not…play.

This is the type of novella that I like.  It has enough background that I feel like I can believe the relationship.  It also gives you "what comes next" in an epilogue.  Rough Ride is a short story about two people who can't deny the heat between them.  They are willing to jeopardize everything to be together.  I'll admit, I didn't love the setting.  I could understand why the owners had a no fraternization policy given the hot scenes between the main characters. However,  I did like Tess and Luke together.  It's a quick read and one I do recommend.

Author: Vanessa North
Publisher: Carina Press
Date of publication: July 2018

Behind closed doors, in the office and out, Steven and Jake explore their tastes for rough sex, chastity cages, and dominance and submission.

That Jake is Steven’s IRL boss only makes it better.

There’s only one rule between them: no matter how hot their power play gets, it only happens if Steven feels safe. Personally and professionally.

But when what starts as two guys blowing off steam turns into real feelings above the waist, it’s not that simple.

Going public—having a relationship—would mean putting both their jobs on the line.

I didn't really like Reporting In.  The story would have benefited from being a longer book.  The way the affair started was kind of awkward.  There was not real indication that there was an attraction, so it came out of nowhere for me.  I would have liked to see more of Steven and Jake together before to  really buy into it.  The ending was a too convenient.  I'm not sure I would really recommend this one.

Striker by Lilly Atlas

Author: Lilly Atlas
Audiobook by Audible
Narrated by Noah Michael Levine
Date of publication: September 2016

Dr. Lila Emerson is finally free of the shadow of her politically connected family, with her new job in a small town Emergency Room. But her new peace is shattered when she encounters the dangerous, but compelling Striker. He's everything she should stay away from, but all she craves. And since he keeps turning up in her ER, he's hard to avoid.

As Vice President of No Prisoners outlaw motorcycle club, Striker is no stranger to violence. But when it touches the pretty doctor he wants in his bed, he'll do anything to keep her safe. When Striker and Lila are thrust together, sparks fly and passions ignite. Before long they find themselves entangled in a relationship neither saw coming.

The MC can and will eliminate any threat against Lila, but what if they—and the man she's falling for—are the reason she’s in danger?

So the thing about motor cycle club stories is that you have to kind of let go of some of your morals.  The guys in this series are not saints by any stretch of the imagination.  Striker is definitely one of the more raw MC stories that I have read so far.  The story over all was fairly enjoyable.  I liked both Lila and Striker.  I liked their chemistry and banter.  The biggest mystery wasn't hard to figure out even with the couple of red herrings thrown into the mix.  the bedroom scenes were absolutely smoking.  My only complaint was that some of the dialogue in those scenes was a bit cheesy and made me laugh.  Not the effect I think the author was going for.

I listened to the Audible audiobook for this.  I thought the presentation was well done.  I enjoyed the narrator, Noah Michael Levine, and thought he did a good job with all of the voices. I was definitely engaged the entire time. I'd like to pick up the next book, Jester when it comes out.  He as a funny character and I can't wait to read his story.

Throwback Thursday: Loving Lies by Lora Leigh

Author: Lora Leigh

First published in 2006 by Samhain Publishing

Love will find a way. Slade was Jessie's life, the first love that filled her heart and soul and bound her woman's spirit. Years of waiting culminating in an incredible weekend of sexual abandon-teaching her everything she needed to know to be his woman and branded her as Slade's woman for life. Jessie was certain Slade had to love her. Until he whispered the lie, the ultimate betrayal, and walked away only to wed another woman. Now five years later Slade returns, his soul has withered without Jessie's presence, and now he'll have her, one way or the other.

The love for her, the fierce overriding hunger and need consumes his heart and binds his soul. No matter the obstacles, Slade will get her back. Whatever it takes. Whatever he has to do. Warning: this book contains lots of steamy, hot lovin'.

It's been a while since I have read a book by this author.  I forgot how intensely erotic her books can be.  Loving Lies is no exception.  With the upcoming release of one third "Boys of Summer" book, Dirty Little Lies, I thought it might be good to go back to the beginning of the series to catch up.

For the most part, I enjoyed the story.  Slade is an uber-alpha male and a little over the top at times. But I was rooting for him to get Jessie back.  I had to suspend a little bit of disbelief over the reason Slade left.   I liked how Jessie grew over the five years he was gone.  It would have been nicer had the book been a little longer to be able to see what went on while they were apart.

If you are looking for intense and well written erotica, you can't go wrong with this author.  Why not start with this one?

Blog Tour: Cruise Control by Kerry Adrienne

Author: Kerry Adrienne
Publisher: Earthshine Publishing
Date of publication: March 2015

Retired soldier Blake Best drives hard—his car, his life, and his choices. Former Airman Parker Monteith is fighting to keep his life on cruise control so he doesn’t lose it all.

One Maserati brings them together. Can Blake slow down enough to discover the important things aren't in the fast lane?

Cruise Control was a very quick listen.  I was sent the audiobook for review and being a fan of audiobooks, I started it right away.  I thought the audio narration was done very well.  I enjoyed listening to the narrator.  I don't believe I have heard him in any other books before, but I would listen to him again.

As for the story, I did enjoy it.  It's more like a novella length, so my disappointment in the story was the length and speed in which Blake and Parker fall for each other.  I would have liked it to be longer and give them more time to get to know each other.  I would have also loved to see some resolution in the conflict with Blake's sister.
