Review Tour: Cowboys of Devil's Ditch by Vanessa Vale

Cowboys of Devil's Ditch by Vanessa Vale is live!

The West just got Wilder! Meet the cowboys of Devil’s Ditch, Montana, one steamy, instalove story at a time.

This paperback volume includes Trig, Colt and Bray.

TRIG:
I’m a rodeo champ. I live for the eight second rush astride an angry bull. But now I live for her. The One I save from a Montana blizzard.
Stranded together, I make her mine.
When danger arrives on my front porch, I protect what’s mine.
But how do I protect the woman I love if I don’t know who she really is?

COLT:
She’s The One. The one who got away.
After a steamy encounter at the rodeo, I thought I’d never see her again. I’ve been given a second chance when I discover she’s the new doctor in town. I do everything I can to make her mine, but she resists. It makes no sense, until I learn the truth of her past. I won’t let her escape again, even if I have to handcuff her to my bed.

BRAY:
I’ve known her for years… but it’s time to make her mine. My little sister’s best friend needs my help, to be her fake boyfriend.
Fake? Nothing’s fake with her. She feels it, too, but can’t understand why I finally want her after all this time. I’d take the time to prove it, but someone’s out to hurt her. That means she’s mine now whether she likes it or not.

These short reads are MF with a guaranteed spicy HEA. While they are standalone, it’s best to read them in order.

My thoughts:

This volume of  Cowboys of Devil's Ditch contains the first three novellas in the series. Each one features a member of the large Wilder family who meet their loves and fall instantly.  They are all insta-love, very quick romances with happy endings.  They all also contain very spicy content.

While I enjoyed each couple, my favorite out of the three was Bray's story.  Bray and Katie have known each other for a long time so I felt like their story was less insta-lovey.  It was more like Bray finally saw what was right in front of him all along.  If you are a fan of insta love stories with alpha males who take care of their women, I highly recommend this series.

Review: Out of the Shadows by Allison Brennan

Author: Allison Brennan
Publisher: Hanover Square Press
Publication Date:
August 2025

Logan Monroe’s family is in danger. After his sister, Laura, and her kids are run off the road and their house is broken in to, Logan tasks the Angelharts with keeping them safe, and the PIs drop everything to take on the case.

But they quickly realize there’s more to the situation than anyone thinks. First, the burglars didn’t take anything—were they just trying to scare her or were they after something they didn’t find? Then Laura can’t reach her ex-husband, who was supposed to take the kids for the weekend. While Jack protects the family, Margo tries to find the ex…but he seems to have disappeared.

As she digs deeper, Margo uncovers someone hiding in the shadows who will do anything to get what he wants—including killing anyone who stands in his way.

Out of the Shadows it a novella that comes in between the first and second book in the Angelhart investigation series.  I am glad that I read this one before the second book.  It's been a year since I read the first book, You'll Never Find Me, and it was a nice way to reorient myself to the characters.

The novella is a good solid mystery and had some nice twists.  I really do like Margo's character.  I also felt like I got to know Jack a bit more since he plays a key role in this one.  I would recommend this one.  It's a nice and quick read to get you ready for book two, Don't Say a Word.

My thoughts:

Buttercream and Second Beginnings is a really cute and short second chance romance. Callie and Macon were a hot couple in high school, but college and time had them drifting apart.  Macon is back in town and he has a secret that he has brought with him. I enjoyed watching Callie and Macon get to know each other and realize they still have intense feelings.  I only wish that the book was a little longer.  I would have liked to see Callie interact with Macon's daughter more. There isn't any real angst here, which was refreshing.  I do recommend it.

Release Blitz: Review of Shamrock Kisses by Serena Pier

Author: Serena Pier
Publisher:
Serena Pier, LLC
Publication Date; December 2024
Amazon: https://amzn.to/4d7gzT5
Goodreads: https://bit.ly/3ZZklKX
Am I going to get lucky? Maybe if the hunky nerd I met yesterday takes me up on my invite to attend High Five's St. Paddy's Day party ...

Rachel Wagner, who's sworn off dating apps, is the last single one in her friend group. Focused on running her thriving cleaning business in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, the thirty-one-year-old is caught off guard when she stumbles upon a bearded nerd while cleaning her biggest client's lake house.

Patrick Nowak, a reclusive cat-loving hacker, prefers code to conversation and planned to spend the St. Patrick's Day weekend out of Chicago enjoying a digital detox at his friend's lake house. But when Rachel, a confident brunette who seems way out of his league, invites him to a local bar's St. Paddy's party, his anxiety just might prevent him from taking her up on the offer.

In a game of attraction and vulnerability, neither of them is prepared for just how much their lives can change in a day.

(This is Book #3 in an interconnected series. It is encouraged, but not essential, to read Santa's Coming and Cupid's Shot before reading Shamrock Kisses.)

My thoughts:

Shamrock Kisses is the third novella in the High Five series. The series involves three friends who find love on the holidays.  St. Patrick's Day is around the corner and its Rachel's turn.  I thought this was a adorable story.  Being a novella, it is a bit of insta-love.  But it is an adorable one.  I loved Patrick.  He was nerdy and very sweet.  I won't spoil it, but I think you will love watching them fall for each other. I highly recommend it.

About the author:

Writing under the pen name, Serena Pier is a wine lover, coffee snob & wife. With Midwestern roots, her stories are primarily set in and around Chicago. Serena is deeply fascinated by power dynamics; her stories always explore unequal social status.

I thought this was a really sweet friends to lovers romance.  I loved that Chase and Lizzie have a history.  It made their falling for each other seamless.  I only wish the story was longer.  I would have loved to spend more time getting to know Lizzie and Chase.  It's a great start to the series.  I highly recommend it.

Dash

When my son had to leave our small hometown of Christmas, Texas, I couldn’t wait to leave with him, only to fall into a new fresh hell.
Christmas 2.0 a/k/a Candy Cane Key.
Everyone is in love down here. They love their town. They love their school.
Let me tell you, True Love doesn’t exist. Romantic love is made up.
There’s no one who can tell me differently.
No matter how gorgeous she is.
And I’m the grouch who said so.

Summer

I love where I live. I love the sun, the people, my job. I love to help and do whatever anyone needs of me.
But letting them past my surface is hard when they’re only using our town as another way out.
For having a bright talented kid, and being extremely good looking, this guy is all types of grouch.
He’s cynical, annoyed with the world, and has become my new target.
Can I make him love Candy Cane Key, and also let my guard down and him in?

Falling for the Grouch is an opposites attract story.  Dash is a single dad who is not looking to ever get married again.  Summer is an optimist who is looking for her happy ever after.  They are very much opposite people.  But they have a lot of chemistry and sparks fly.  This was a cute yet steamy story.  It did take me a bit to buy into them getting together, They were just so different. However, I liked the ending.  I also enjoyed the relationship between Dash and his son.  Give this one a shot.

My thoughts:

Marrying the Lady is the third book in this series.  This one is Constance's story.  I enjoyed this one more than the last one.  There was a little mystery as well as the hint of a romance.  Once again, I would have loved to have it be longer to see the love grow between Constance and William. But what we do see is really sweet.  I have been enjoying the narration in this series.  Definitely give this one a try.

My thoughts:

Presenting the Lady is the second short story in the The Lady series.  This one is Arabella's story.  Of the two that I have read so far, this one was not my favorite.  It's not really a romance.  It's more about Josephine and her husband from the first story trying to keep Arabella in line until her presentation at court.  I would have liked it to focus more on her eventual match and how they ended up in love.  Despite that, it was still a worthwhile listen.  It shows the lengths family will go to protect their own. The audio quality and narrator was as good as the first one. Give it a try.

My thoughts:

Forever with the Trucker is the next book in the Forever series.  Eden is Farah's sister.  When she is faced with her parents trying to marry her off for a business deal, she flees and heads to her sister's town.  Ace comes to her rescue when her car break s down. For him it's love at first sight.  This one was cute.  I did like Edan and Ace together.  Once again, I wish it was longer. I would have liked a bit more conflict and time for them together than just a weekend.   If you enjoy sexy insta-love stories with happy endings, then give this series a try.

“Hey, sweetheart?” God his voice is sexy; like every romance hero I’ve ever read about in one human. He kind of looks like one too. “Eden?”
“Not your sweetheart,” I mumble, rolling over to face him.
“Yeah, I know.” Does he sound disappointed? Or am I really tired? “Our five-hour trip just got extended until this wreck clears up.”
I roll back over. “Okay.” Then I realize that I was face to face with him which means he’s not driving. He has this crooked half-smile on his face that’s… wow. Ace is crouched so that our noses are barely three inches apart. “We’re not moving.”
“Nope.” Ace pops the ‘p’ and gives me a pitying look.
“It’s fine, I don’t even know what I’m going to say to my sister when I get there.” I sit up and a big hand comes out to stop me. I blink and realize I nearly hit my head on the top bunk. “I guess I’m not awake yet. Thanks.”
“I’ve ended up with many a goose egg because of this bunk.” Ace laughs and I swoon. Like I literally make a swooning sound. He smirks at me, and I roll my eyes. I can feel how red my face is and make sure to not look at him. “Your burger is up here.”
“You got me a burger?” My stomach growls.
“I figured you’d feel better and be hungry after a nap.” He gets back in the driver’s seat, folding his long legs to get up there. I squeeze through and pick up my burger before I sit down. There are red tail lights as far as I can see. Great. “Now, I need to know that you didn’t steal that car. I also need to know you’re not sixteen or something.”
My burger is halfway to my mouth, but I stop to answer him. “I’ll be twenty in a few days.” Ace shakes his head and rubs his bearded jaw. “Is there something wrong with that? I’m not sixteen, you’re not endangering a minor.” I take a bite of the burger. It’s not warm anymore, but I’m starving, so I really don’t care.
“Am I harboring a fugitive?” Ace watches me chew the burger.
I shake my head. “I’ve driven that car since I was sixteen. It’s always been my car, but my parents do own it. I think they want me back more than they want the car. They can buy a new car, I’m the last daughter they can marry off.” As soon as I say the words, I cover my mouth. I did not mean to say so much.
“Marry off?” With a quick glance at the still cars around us, he turns in his seat to look at me. “Spill it.”
“I get a question before I answer yours.” I talk around the bite of burger. Ace pretends to think, eyebrow arched, tapping his chin. I giggle and he smiles. God he’s hot, rugged, manly.
“I’ll answer your question.”
“How old are you?”
I caught him off guard. Good. Ace clears his throat. “Thirty-three.” My eyes widen. “Practically ancient.” He glances back up at the traffic then those emerald eyes land on me again.
“You’re not ancient. Older than I would have guessed, but you thought I was sixteen.” I shrug and pop the last bite of burger in my mouth.
“Too old for you.” He holds my gaze when he says it and I can feel the heat rolling off him  in waves. Oh wow.

Blog Tour: Review of One More Kiss by Tara September

Author: Tara September
Narrator: Hollie Jackson
Length: 2 hours 15 minutes
Publisher: Plus it Up2021
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release date: Sep. 29, 2021

Step one: Kiss Cal again. Just one more kiss.
Step two: Kiss someone else to compare.
Step three: Permanently close the door on Cal Chase.
Once again, I bang on the connecting door to my dorm room, trying to be heard over the blaring music coming from the other side. My bestie should be living in that room, but no, she transferred to be with her boyfriend, and now I’m stuck sharing a wall with stupidly hot track star Cal Chase. My friends say I'm lucky, but his mere presence annoys me, along with his late-night music and the constant gaggle of giggly girls who visit. I’m the only one who can see right through that patented “Cal Charm”. He’s just another player, and I’m not game.
So, why the hell did I let him give me an out-of-this-world kiss under the stars the other night? It had to be the magic of the meteor shower. I can’t actually like him, right? I simply need to prove Cal’s stellar kiss was a fluke, and I know how to do it and in just three steps.
Should be easy, right?
Yeah, famous last words.

My thoughts:

One More Kiss is a cute enemies to lovers novella.  I liked the set up of the story.  April and Cal are next door neighbors in the dorm.  April is convinced they hate each other, but Cal has other ideas. I liked the chemistry between Aril and Cal. Their relationship got cuter once the connecting door was opened.  It's super short and will leave you with a smile at the end.    I only wish it was a longer story.  I could have spent more time with them.  The audiobook production was great and I enjoyed the narrator's voices.  I highly recommend this one.

My thoughts:

Slaying in Salem  is the second in a trio of mystery novellas.  As in the first one, We follow Nick, a photographer who is traveling from US capital to US capital to take photographs for a magazine.  This is his second stop in Salem, Oregon.  Once again, he ends up involved in a murder case.

As with the first one, I did enjoy this installment.  I feel like I am getting to know Nick a bit better.  His knack for solving crimes is uncanny.  He tends to see clues that others don't see.  I think it's his ability to see things differently through the camera lens.  I liked the mystery in this one.  If Nick hadn't been there, the murder never would have been solved.  On to Sacramento next.
