Blog Tour: Broken Things to Mend by Karey White

Celia is in desperate need of a change--a change of scenery, a change of pace, and a complete redo of all relationships. Not knowing what else to do, she opens a map, closes her eyes, and lets fate decide her future. Then she packs her meager belongings and buys a one-way ticket to a little town on the fringes of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest called Sisters. She's wanted a family for years. Will she find one in Sisters? What Celia doesn't plan to find is a strange Chinese woman whose meddling ways keep throwing her in the path of a handsome, but reserved, forest ranger. But no matter how kind or dependable Silas seems to be, there are some things in Celia's past that neither of them can escape, and this time, the damage might be too much to mend.

I'm not sure I have read a sweeter story than this one in a long time.
Broken Things to Mend was such a refreshing read and a much needed escape for a little while.  This is the first book in a series about mysterious matchmaker who seems to always know when two people just need to meet.  The rest is up to them, but somehow loves always finds a way.

Celia is young, in trouble and has no family.  When she is attacked one night in her room, she flees for parts unknown.  A teardrop leads her to the town of Sisters.  There she hopes to find a better future for herself.  She meets the matchmaker who helps her on her quest.  For Silas, his life is quiet and he is seemingly content to be alone.  His speech impediment makes him more of an introvert. Watching these two meet was like watching a shy lonely spark take hold and  gradually ignite into a bonfire.  I loved them together and loved watching their relationship grow from friendship to love.  I don't want to give too much away as there are a couple of surprises, but I will say you will find yourself rooting for these two to find their HEA with each other.

This is a nice clean read for those who just like sweet romances. As I said earlier, this is part of a series, but each book is written by a different author and can be read as a stand alone book.  I will be reviewing the next book, by Rachael Anderson next month, so stay tuned for that one!

Blog Tour: The Wife Maker by Karey White

Wife Maker (1)

Wife Maker

Date of publication:

Charlotte has spent years as the husband maker, sending every guy she dates off to enjoy marital bliss with the next girl he dates. But things have now changed, and she's determined to use her husband-maker abilities one last time--on herself. And she finally knows exactly who she wants. Angus has loved Charlotte since they were teenagers, but he's tired of waiting for her to realize how good they could be. She's broken his heart one too many times, and it's time to move on with his life. Maybe a position halfway across the country will be just what he needs to get over her. But when Charlotte won't let him go without a fight, Angus has to decide if he's willing to let her in again or if she's too late.

At last, the final book in Charlotte's journey to find love and happiness!  I have enjoyed this series throughout and I'm kind of sad to see it end.  After the cliffhanger in the second book, I was eager to see how Charlotte would get Angus back.  After he moves to Kansas City, she decides to make the grand gesture and follow.

I found this one a bit frustrating because I wanted to strangle Angus through most of the book. I mean, she moved across the country to be near you, what are you running for?  I guess it goes to show that even when the one thing you have wanted for so long is there in front of you, fear can still keep you from grabbing it and never letting go.  I was really rooting for these two.  I loved the ending with the cards!

This final installment is a quick and easy read with a very satisfying conclusion.  I do recommend this sweet clean romance series.  I look forward to reading more from this author!

Blog Tour: The Match Maker by Karey White

The Match Maker by Karey White (The Husband Maker #2)
(Summary contains spoilers if you have not yet read book #1 The Husband Maker)
It’s been six months since Charlotte and Kyle broke up, and the Husband Maker strikes again. Kyle is officially engaged, while Charlotte is still nursing a broken heart.
In an effort to get Charlotte out of her rut, she and her best friend decide it’s time for some good old-fashioned matchmaking. While Aleena arranges for Charlotte to meet up with a handsome Scottish tourist, Charlotte gets her two best friends together. But when sparks start to fly between Aleena and Angus, Charlotte is left feeling more alone that ever–at least until the charming Scotsman becomes more than just a safe, rebound guy and teaches her that maybe, just maybe, she can dare to open her heart again.

The Matchmaker is the second book in the "Husband Maker" series.  I reviewed the first book, The Husband Maker, back in July. I will say that I do recommend reading the first book before reading this one.  While I enjoyed The Husband Maker, I was sad to say that I was a little disappointed in the second book.  In this one, Charlotte finds out Kyle is engaged and takes a hiatus from dating.  Once she decides to put herself out there again, she meets Flynn from Scotland.  But Angus keeps acting weird toward her, even though she set him up with her close friend Aleena.

The one thing that I did like about this book was I felt that Charlotte does grow up a lot.  I felt like she learned more about herself and what she wanted from life and in a relationship.   I really liked Flynn,so I was disappointed to see that relationship fizzle out.  I was extremely unhappy with Angus. He acted like a supreme jerk to Charlotte when it was his own fault for never telling her how he felt about her.  The way he treated her at the end was appalling.  The book ends with a big cliffhanger with nothing resolved.  I have to wonder if this book could have been combined with the third book.  But I will have to see.  I really hope that Charlotte gets her HEA in the last book, The Wife Maker which comes out next year.

Husband Maker Tour

Charlotte’s a girl with nicknames. She may not love being called Charles or Chuck, but the hardest nickname to take is the one she was given in college, the one that’s followed her now for too many years. They call her “the husband maker” and sadly, it fits. Every guy she’s dated since high school has become his next girlfriend’s husband. Not hers. Not three girlfriends down the road. The next. Is she doing something wrong or is she just cursed? When Kyle Aldsworth enters the picture and sweeps her off her feet, Charlotte begins to hope that maybe she's not destined to be single forever. A senator’s son with political aspirations of his own, Kyle's wealthy, handsome, and in need of a wife. Will Charlotte be disappointed yet again, or will she finally be able to make a husband for herself?

My thoughts:
The Husband Maker is a well written and clean read..  I did like the overall story as it dealt with trying to figure out what we truly want in life and relationships.   I really felt bad for Charlotte because I think she clearly was picking the wrong men.  She seems to be someone who is looking for true love, but keeps trying maybe too hard to find it.  She did come across as a genuinely nice and caring person. She has great friends and loves her family.

Given her personality, I was surprised at her relationship with Kyle.  I never liked him throughout the whole book.  He kept coming across as selfish to me and that isn't someone I would want to see Charlotte with.  The book does end in a sort of cliffhanger.  Not as bad as it could have been.  I felt comfortable with the place that Charlotte was in and I am really rooting for her future.

I do recommend this book.  I am really looking forward to reading the sequel, The Matchmaker which comes out this fall.

Enjoy this excerpt!

My apartment intercom buzzed. “Yes?” I answered.
“It’s Kyle Aldsworth.” He had a deep, rich voice in spite of the static that accompanied it.
“Great. I’ll be right down.” I ran to the window that overlooked the sidewalk in front of my apartment. I didn’t have a great angle. The door to our building was narrow and sat behind a wrought iron gate between Cuddy’s Clip Shop and Grandpa Guo’s Shoe Repair. Cuddy’s was two floors below us, and if guests were standing too close to the door, they were blocked from view by the barber pole attached to the side of the building.
Kyle stood a few feet from the door, allowing me a birds-eye view of dark, thick hair and a navy suit. If he looked up, I’d be able to see his face, which Jayne had compared to a clean-shaven Jake Gyllenhaal. Of course, if he looked up, he’d probably see I was spying out my window instead of coming to the door. I took one last look at my gray and white striped dress, grabbed my yellow cardigan, and headed down.
“You must be Charlotte,” he said when I opened the door. I smiled and looked up—yes up—at one of the most incredible faces I’d ever gone on a date with. Jayne had been wrong. He wasn’t a beardless Jake Gyllenhaal. He was Jake plus Cary Grant plus Captain VonTrapp, with a little of Jonny Lee Miller’s Mr. Knightley thrown in for good measure. Perhaps that sounds ridiculous, but you weren’t looking at him.
All intelligent thought abandoned me, leaving me unable to remember for sure what my name was.
What kind of game was Jayne playing with me? Kyle was much too beautiful for me. He’d have probably been too beautiful for Grace Kelly.
“You are Charlotte Emerson, right?”
How long had I been standing there gawping at him?
“Yes. I’m Charlotte.”
“Whew! You had me worried for a second. I’m Kyle. It’s good to meet you.” He extended his hand and shook mine. His hand was perfect—good size, warm and dry, nice grip without too much enthusiasm. He was a hand-shaking artist. Great. He’d stopped shaking my hand and I hadn’t relinquished my grip. I quickly withdrew mine and turned to lock the iron gate. My face burned, and I fidgeted with the key for a few extra seconds to give my cheeks a chance to return to their normally fair complexion.

Kyle was smiling when I turned back around. “My car’s around the corner.”

Lost and Found by Karey White

Today, I have the fourth  novella  in the from the Ripple Effect Romance Novella Series.  It is a series of 6 clean novellas by 6 different authors.

“Like a pebble tossed into calm water, a simple act can ripple outward and have a far-reaching effect on those we meet, perhaps setting a life on a different course—one filled with excitement, adventure, and sometimes even love.”

Lydia was supposed to have an adventurous and exciting summer. Instead she’s done nothing more than read and eat takeout. Now it’s time to go home, and what does she have to show for it? A big fat nothing. Unless, of course, her trip to the airport somehow turns into something more than just a flight home.
Blake feels like he’s been sent on a wild goose chase. While work is piling up back in Denver, he’s on the other side of the country, hunting for some mysterious box that his grandfather left him. Well, no more. Nothing inside that box could possibly be more important than the opportunity to make it as the youngest partner at his firm. So he’s going home, and that’s that. But that’s before he discovers his flight has been cancelled.
When these two strangers meet at the airport, they make a split-second decision to search for the box together. Maybe with both of them on the hunt, Lydia can have her adventure and Blake can find the box. And maybe, if they’re lucky, they’ll even find some romance.
I know I have said it before, but I am really loving this series.  If you are in the mood for some well written, sweet and clean romances, then this series is for you. Lost & Found is Lydia's Story.  Lydia is Trace's sister who was featured in the last novella, Righting a Wrong.  Lydia went to Charlotte, NC for an adventurous summer only to be returning home with nothing to show for it.  A chance meeting with the handsome Blake in the airport sparks a spontaneous adventure that is life changing in more ways than one.
This story only proves that sometimes the greatest times in our lives are the ones that are unexpected and unplanned.  I loved Lydia and Blake together.  I thought they were a really cute couple.  Both kind of afraid to go for what they wanted, but each really brave in trying to help the other take a chance.  I loved their HEA. I won't tell you what is in the box that Blake does finally find, but I can say it's worth taking the journey with Blake and Lydia to find out! You can check out what other on the tour are saying here.
