Review: Books 1 & 2 of the Gulf Coast Paranormal Series by M.L. Bullock

Audiobook by: Tantor Audio
Publication Date: December 2017

On the Gulf Coast, Things Don't Just Go Bump in the Night. They Terrorize You and Sometimes You Disappear! The paranormal investigators at Gulf Coast Paranormal thought they knew what they were doing. Midas, Sierra, Sara, Josh and Peter had over twenty combined years of experience investigating supernatural activity on the Gulf Coast. But when they meet Cassidy, a young artist with a strange gift, they realize there's more to learn. And time is running out for Cassidy.

When Gulf Coast Paranormal begins investigating the ghosts of Kali Oka Road, they find an entity far scarier than a few ghosts. Add in the deserted Oak Grove Plantation, and you have a recipe for a night of terror.

This is the first book in the Gulf Coast Paranormal series. For the most part, I liked the book.  The beginning was pretty creepy the tension was kept up throughout the story.  The author did a great job of giving the reader a good feel for each member of the team.  I believe they all have story arcs that continue as the series goes on.  Cassidy ends up being the latest edition to the team.  She is an artist who seems to have a gift for seeing the past through her painting.  This comes in handy with the latest case that the team takes on.  I did think the action was wrapped up a little too quickly in the end.  However, I was hooked enough by the characters to continue onto the next book.

When Cassidy begins painting her visions, she has no idea that she actually opens a door to the past. And behind that door are ghosts, ghosts that want to be seen and remembered. As the rookie member of the Gulf Coast Paranormal investigation team, Cassidy is eager to prove she has the skills required to make the cut, but will her eagerness to fit in place the team in supernatural danger? When a new client hires GCP to settle the spirits in the Crescent Theater, Midas, Sierra, Joshua and Cassidy are put to the test. Will a century-old tragedy force the new owner to shutter the doors forever?
The Ghosts of Crescent Theater is definitely my favorite of the two books.   I loved the setting of the old theater.  This one was pretty creepy and actually kind of scared me a bit.  I could see this one as a b-horror movie.  I felt like I got to know the characters even better this time around.  I love the team dynamic.  I also love the relationship that is developing between Cassidy and Midas.  I would say you could read this one as a stand alone, but the first one sets up Cassidy's story arc so you probably should read that one first.  I definitely recommend both of these and will be continuing on with the series.
