My thoughts:
The Deepest Night is the sequel to The Longest Night. You can read my review here. I really enjoyed this visit to the Isles of Scilly with Ray and Michelle. The description of the island make me want to travel. I would especially love to see the view of the night sky from the island. It sounds breathtaking!
This is a wonderful romance between two people who just click from the start. Michelle has come to the island to look over a potential business for her friend. She is also there to figure out what to do after losing everything when her business was destroyed in a hurricane. Ray has been coming to the island all his life and sees it as a place to heal his soul, especially after a harsh mission with his security company. I won't give too much away, but I loved watching these two fall for each other. Even though it was kind of a whirlwind romance, I felt like the two of them made sense.
Even though this is a sequel, it can be read as a stand alone book. But if you missed The Longest Night, I recommend you give that one a shot as well. I really hope that Preston gets his story. I am intrigued after reading about this loss and how he and Ray became friends!

Off-Season Reading
This
winter, we’ve already had one nationwide cold snap, or so I’ve been told. Here
in Arizona, I’ve only had to put on a jacket once, and that was to drive up
north to the mountains. But for the rest of you, at least in the Northern
Hemisphere, this is the season for fireplaces, thick socks, warm blankets, and
hot drinks. It’s the time when bookstores are full of seasonal readings about
families at Christmas and finding love in the snow.
And
it’s time for the release of my second book, THE DEEPEST NIGHT, which takes
place on the sunny Isles of Scilly, in July.
The
Isles of Scilly are twenty-eight miles off the coast of Cornwall, England, in
the middle of an ocean current that brings mild weather year-round. The islands
are the first stop for rare migratory birds, with dolphins and seals in the
local waters. Scilly’s biggest agricultural export is flowers, and with a late
frost and little chance of snow, the islands are full of fields in bloom almost
year-round. They’re also rich in history, with archaeological sites dating back
to the Stone Age and a museum of figureheads from shipwrecks lost in the
surrounding waters.
But
is it odd to read about two characters enjoying a hot summer while snow falls
outside your window? For me, it’s the perfect escape. I set my first book, THE
LONGEST NIGHT, in the snowy Canadian wilderness as a remedy for living in
Arizona. While my air conditioner struggled to hold the heat at bay, I immersed
myself in a world of deep green forests and snow.
Fast-forward
six months, to the cold winter outside and a hot book in your hands. What
better way to stay warm than to let your imagination fall in love in the exotic
summer heat of the Isles of Scilly?
