Juliet Newman has it all. A picture-perfect family; a handsome, loving boyfriend; and a foolproof life plan: ace her SATs, get accepted into Harvard early decision, and live happily ever after.
But when her dad moves out and her mom loses it, Juliet begins questioning the rules she’s always lived by. And to make everything even more complicated there’s Declan, the gorgeous boy who makes her feel alive and spontaneous—and who’s totally off-limits. Torn between the life she always thought she wanted and one she never knew was possible, Juliet begins to wonder: What if perfect isn't all it’s cracked up to be?
First off, how many books do you think there are with a lone female in a red jacket? There are bajillions, it's so played out. This is such a boring cover for a book, it does not make me want to pick it up. Just putting that out there.
Juliet has a perfect life. She has a perfect boyfriend and she gets perfect grades. Then, her dad moves out and her mom falls into a deep depression and Juliet begins to realize that her life might not have been as perfect as she thought it was. When her mom is committed for an attempted suicide and drug and alcohol addition, Juliet finds out just how not perfect her life has really been.
I thought this book was OK. I had a little bit of trouble believing that someone like Juliet would get a perfect score on the SATs, but it's just a story. I also didn't believe that her boyfriend would just happily accept her getting a higher score, I really thought he would be totally jealous about it. I'd recommend the book, but it really won't be a favorite of mine.
