Krysta is used to getting the drop on vampires. Her "special abilities" aren't much, but the plan is simple—she plays helpless pretty young thing to lure them in. Then her shoto swords come out and it's bye-bye, bloodsucker. Until one night she finds herself with an unexpected ally. He's a vampire, all right, but different. Mysterious. Handsome. And more interested in saving her skin than draining it.

Étienne has been an Immortal Guardian for two hundred years—long enough to know that Krysta is special. He can't stop thinking about her long legs, even more than her short swords. Then he discovers the vamps she's exterminating have friends in high places, and the Guardians are in danger too. He'll have to accept Krysta's help to save them. The stakes for a mortal are high. But the cost to his heart might be higher. . .

I'll start out by saying, this series just keeps getting better and better.  I know I say this every time, but I am so sad when I finish one of these books.  They just don't some out fast enough for my liking. Having to wait a year is agony!

I loved Etienne and Krista.  As with the other Immortal couples, their fall for each other is effortless.  I think that is what appeals to me most about this series, there is minimal angst. I love that! Sometimes, I just want to see a couple fall hard and fast and admit it already!  These two are well matched.  Krista has been hunting vampires for years.  Because of that her ability and willingness to jump right into the thick of the fight was believable.

Darkness Rises is essentially Etienne and Krista's story.  But there are a lot of other things going with other characters as well.  Ami is pregnant and that is causing all sorts of worries among those who care for her.  Lisette seems to have an admirer in Zach (whose origins are unknown) and someone is assembling para-military troops again to hunt vampires and immortals alike.  The books ends with some BIG questions.  I'm hoping Lisette's story is next!

I would recommend not starting with this book.  Because it is book #4, I felt like there was too much back story that one would need to know to jump into the book at this point.  So, start with Darkness Dawns.  Check out the Tour Schedule to see what other are saying!

Top 10 Darkness Rises Quotes

Thank you for joining me today!  And thank you, Kari, for letting me visit From the TBR Pile again!  I’m thrilled to be here, celebrating the release of DARKNESS RISES, Book 4 in my Immortal Guardians paranormal romance series.  There are so many things I love about paranormal romances, including those irresistible alpha males that tend to inhabit them.  There is quite a wide variety.  Some are tortured.  Some are light-hearted.  Some are reclusive.  Some fun-loving people persons.  Some are overbearing and dictatorial.  And some simply can’t resist a strong woman.

Étienne d’Alençon, the hero of DARKNESS RISES, falls into the last category (although he can be a light-hearted, fun-loving tease at times, too).  Étienne has always admired strong women.  And he has made no secret of it throughout the series.  So when he sees Krysta Linz, a mere mortal, take on four vampires by herself, he is instantly intrigued.  How has this entrancing vampire hunter escaped the Immortal Guardians’ notice for the past six years?  How does she hold her own so well against psychotic vampires with preternatural speed and strength?  Unable to resist her lure, he endeavors to learn more about her and soon the sparks begin to fly as he struggles to convince her that not everyone with fangs and glowing eyes is her enemy.

To give you a glimpse of what you’ll find between the pages of DARKNESS RISES, here are my top ten favorite quotes from it:

Darkness Rises Favorite Quotes

1

“Sweetie, I’m not a flowers and chocolates kind of gal,” she said, leaning into him.  “Well, maybe the chocolate.”

“I was going to say.”

— Krysta and Étienne
2

Krysta sighed.  She had been sure he was going to kiss her.

“I thought I would be pushing my luck if I did,” he murmured.

“Oh.”  She didn’t even care that he was reading her thoughts again.

“I also thought you might need a little distance.”

She fought the urge to laugh.  Their sides were glued together and his arm now rested across her shoulders, his fingers toying with her hair.

His lips twitched as he glanced at her from the corner of his eye.  “Note I said I thought you needed some distance.  Tonight I find myself needing the opposite, so this was my compromise.”

She smiled.  “I’ll take it.”

— Étienne and Krysta
3

“Great.  There goes our security deposit.”

— Sean (Krysta’s brother)
4

“I like you more with every tidbit I learn about you.”
She smiled.  “You’re pretty likable yourself.”
“Now that you know I’m not a vampire?”
“You were likable even as a vampire.  It was very annoying.”
He laughed, flashing those pearly fangs.
— Ètienne and Krysta
5

“What makes you think you’ll see him again?”

“Oh, I’ll see him again.  He left me alive for a reason.  And I’m going to kick his ass until he tells me what it is.”

— Sean and Krysta
6

Seth nodded.  “They’ll think I’m playing matchmaker.”

And playing favorites.”

“That’s ridiculous.”

“Exactly.  Everyone knows I’m your favorite and yet I remain distressingly unattached.”

Seth grinned.  “Angling for me to set you up on a blind date?”

“Hell, no.”

— Seth and David (the eldest Immortal Guardians)

7

“There is no reason to feel embarrassed, Krysta.”

“Easy for you to say!  You weren’t caught mentally checking out my package!”

— Étienne and Krysta
8

“Are you the one they call the Day Walker?”

“Yes.”

“Why do they call you that?” another asked.

Seth glanced at Bastien, who clapped a hand to his forehead.  “Because I can walk in daylight,” he explained.

“Ohhhhhhh.”

Okay, so he wasn’t the smartest kid Seth had encountered.  At least he wasn’t manic.

— newly turned vampires, Seth, and Bastien
9

“Could I just say holy crap again?”

— Krysta
10

Krysta looked at her watch.  “We still have a few hours of hunting left and nothing much is happening.  You want to make out a little?”

He laughed in surprised delight.  “You’re a saucy wench, aren’t you?”

“Hey, when I want something, I go for it.”

— Krysta and Étienne

One of my favorite quotes in "Darkness Rises" - Chris Reordon to Seth and David:

"Admit it," Chris said. "You're both a couple of old farts who are technologically challenged".
"True."
"Admitted without shame."

LOL Seth and David are so powerfull that it's surprising theu are "technologically challenged".

The first quote that comes to mind...is "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." Obviously from Dirty Dancing. I can remember quotes all day long when I am watching or reading but not just out of the blue.

I am currently reading Phantom Shadows and it is great so far!

Thanks so much!

It is hard for me to remember quotes from books, I am too busy enjoying the story. But I did love the one where Krysta said, "Easy for you to say! You weren't caught mentally checking out my package!" That one was cool. I love this series and I enjoyed Darkness Rises very much. Thanks for sharing the quotes and the giveaway. evamillien at gmail dot com

I read so many books that I love, but when you ask the question about a quote...my mind goes blank. But this one comes to mind from Pretty Woman...
"What happens after the man rescues the princess?"
"She rescues him right back."
Kiss....kiss.
Congrats...Would love to win.

One of my absolute favorites is.

“I'm saying that I'm a moody, insecure, narrow-minded, jealous, borderline homicidal bitch, and I want you to promise me that you're okay with that, because it's who I am, and you're what I need.”
― Jeaniene Frost, Halfway to the Grave

and a favorite from one of my favorite books

“Beautiful, brave and possessed of violent tendencies. I like her.”
― Dianne Duvall, Darkness Dawns
