Blog Tour: Review of As You Were by Lee Piper

Author: Lee Piper
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Date of publication: December 2018

They say love is beautiful.

They lie.

Love is a dark, broken man with whiskey-colored eyes. Love is knowing he will never return my feelings. It is the final chord of a guitar riff as it bleeds into silence.

Love is Zeke Danton.

I convinced myself I needed him. I thought there was no one better to record my debut album with…

I was wrong.

Encased in layers of ice, he wears his pain like a protective shield.

Wanting what I can’t have might ruin me. But so help me, I crave his destruction.

As You Were is the second book in the Rising Stars series.  This is Willow and Zeke's story.  I didn't read the fist book, Lie to Me. However, this one stood up well as a stand alone.  The other characters show up in this one, but I didn't feel like I missed out on anything.  Willow and her band members have two weeks to record their debut album.  Willow spends a lot of that time fighting against her attraction to Zeke, their producer.

I'll be honest, I had a hard time warming up to Zeke.  One thing I struggle with in books is how a person can ever find themselves attracted to someone who is a complete asshole most of the time.  He definitely grew on me and I ended up loving his character in the end.  He definitely redeemed himself.  Willow was a breath of fresh air.  I loved her free spirit and willingness to see the brighter side of things. Especially when things were looking bleak.  She was also a little spit-fire!  The ending was very sweet.  I do recommend this one.  Just ignore Zeke in the beginning.  He really is a nice guy.
